Well Gass, I have met many Filipino here in Australia, like anyone else, you have good & bad, for the most, those I have met & know personally are wonderful people, I am not "Mail Order Bride Shopping" & I have not yet met the right girl here, but it would appear I may have met the right girl & the only way I will know is when I visit her next year & spend 6 weeks there to gauge for myself if I am doing the right thing or wasting my time.

I am not Filipino specific, having spoken to thousands of people from different countries around the world since 1996 accessing the internet, I find Filipino to be 'nice' to talk to & after 5 years of talking to Melinda, we have grown to become more than just best friends in how we feel towards each other.

You sound much like some of my friends here who tell me to save my money and find a Filipino here if that is what I am looking for, or that I would be better off financially spending my money hiring an Asian Hooker once a week... In fact; you sound very bitter towards Filipino in general, maybe you would like to meet my two Australian ex-Wives? Sorry but now I am very bitter towards Australian women in general, their lifestyle, how they behave, how they speak in public, I am laying my chips on Melinda this time around as she appears to be the total opposite of what is here...

When I go there I will not be one of those who are ignorant living it up in a Resort oblivious to the real Filipino lifestyle, I am staying with her Family, in a small Nipa Hut, no running water, no air-con, no shower, no modern amenities what so ever, I grew up like this myself as a child and asides from the Tropical heat compared to Queensland's Tropical heat, & the language barrier as I am not great with either the Tagalog or Visayan dialect, I feel that these will be my only challenge...

Sorry if I am wrong, but what I am sensing is you are telling me there are no honest Filipino what so ever? Is that so?

There is only one way to find out and I am not rushing into anything, I am 51 not some young pup thinking with his small brain.

I have known her almost 5 years, & it will be another year before I go there, unless she begins placing pressure on me to start supporting her & her Daughter or her extended Family before then, she has point blank refused any help for close to 5 years citing that it is wrong to take money from anyone, so I fail to see why I should not take the plunge & go there to visit her & her family, who though very poor; have offered to take me in to stay with them so that we get to know each as 'Family'... If she was a Scammer like others I have met, like them, surely she would have lost interest in me long ago and moved onto a softer target... I fail to see how I am being scammed by someone who rouses on me if I so much as ask if she needs anything for her or her Daughter's needs...

But thank you for your concern... Advice has been taken on board.

Take you time, and do your research

If you have taken 5 years to get to know her, then I can graduate you for taking your time. I would suggest you spend a few hours reading "A Man's guide to life and love in the Philippines" by Larry Elterman. I am told he lives here in Dumaguete but I have never met him. I purchased the book about a year prior to moving here, and have been here a year. I still pull it out for reference. Unlike you, I did not build a relationship over years but only months on the internet so the book came in real handy. The book will explain many things about the culture but until you experience it first hand you will not fully understand all the aspects of the culture here.

There are honest Filipinos here, but you have to look for them. One of the biggest lies is "I am not like those other woman." hahahaha If you believe that one expect to spend a pocketful of money.

I hope you found the right one, and that is the only one you have to build a relationship with here. Good luck

    Thank you Dave & Imp...

I am not like my mates, I have never done the one night stand thing or Pub crawls looking for sex. I have been married twice, both ended with unfaithful wives, sometimes I feel I am stupid as I had the opportunity to do the same as they did to me but in hindsight I am happy I did not stoop to their level.

I am a very cautious person by nature, after growing up in a 'Christian' environment; I find I am now very distrusting of most everything & I am one to question everything or research the how's & why's of it, I have learnt from several mates who are Police Officers as to how to read people and their intentions simply by watching their eyes at all times, amazing what you can pick just by eye to eye contact and the effect it has one some, and I admit I am not perfect by any means.

I was 'Cyber Engaged' to a girl for 2 years, drawn to both her beauty & her 'innocence', but as I found, long distance internet dating is not for everyone who is not both honest or patient. Melinda advised me many times along the way how to handle situations with my 'fiancé' explaining her Culture to me which was both interesting & a great help.

I looked that Book up on Amazon, I would love if a Book were available from an Australian point of view as it is so mind numbing trying to get answers here on what the process is, I have tried the Australian Government Website for Immigration, no wonder we have so many Boat People! I have tried speaking to Immigration Agents, every one of them advise to pay the $4,500 up front plus the $2,060 Australian Government Taxes then they will give me the paperwork I will need to fill in, lodge in Manila and pay for there...

I live on a Disability Pension & Pensions here are not the same as America or Britain, so living there is out of the question for me, which only leaves me with bringing Melinda & her Daughter here if that is what I choose to do. Everything takes time, saving the money the hardest part, so that is why I remain patient & in no rush, no use beating myself up over what I cannot control.

Actually I think almost every one of them has told me that are not like those other girls, but all the tears, the sad stories, for me there are no more blurred lines, I have quiet a few genuine Filipina friends, but that is all they are, I have read many times how Guys go over there to meet 2, 3, 5 or more women to choose who is 'the one' with out any of them knowing about the other, then I have also read many times about the women who have the same game in play...

Life most certainly can be like walking a Mine field at times...

    Try an Immigration Attorney

Well, I went through some similar experience including the engagement, but that was in person. When it became apparent to her that I was moving to the Philippines, instead of bring her to the states... her enthusiasm diminished. Recently she texted me to see if I was every going back to the US, and as soon as I said "no" she disappeared again. It has been over two years no since we were engaged and it is pretty much of a thing of the past now.

I spent about an hour on the phone with an immigration attorney in the US. When he told me that I would have to sign an agreement with the US government that said I would support her at a certain economic level no matter what happened and advised me not to do that, I stopped the concept of bring her to the US.. My lady had two children with two different fathers and was willing to abandon them to move to the US. That made me think also. If she would abandon her children to get to the US, what would she do to me.

Getting back to the subject, if they have immigration attorneys there in Australia, I would suggest you talk with one. I am not familiar with Australia law myself, although my daughter lives in Hunter Valley outside of Sydney. An good immigration attorney can paint a very clear picture for you of your actions. If they do not have immigration attorney just keep researching, possibly find some on who has brought a Filipina to Australia. I know from my daughter's experience that Australia can be difficult to immigrate to with all the rules, and a general attitude that does not make it easy to immigrate there.

    Good luck....

That is exactly the problem here Dave, the illegal immigrants are being encouraged to slip in the back door even the most recent where the illegal immigrants hijacked a Trawler throwing the Captain and Crew overboard and left them for dead, Sri Lanka wants Australia to send them directly back for trial, Australia has stated they will be processed as per any other illegal Boat person coming here and will not be sent back... WTF? No wonder our society here is falling apart with reverse Racism and pandering Politicians discriminating against those who wish to settle here for legitimate reasons...

Then on the other hand, we have QUALIFIED Immigrants applying to come here to fill services that are not being filled due to Australia becoming a lazy Country filled with Social Security dependent losers who are simply not interested in working full stop! Those who can come here to fill essential services especially in our Medical fields, have to jump through hoops and traverse a virtual minefield to come here, Our Red Headed McClown we have for a Prime Minister here is an embarrassment to the entire Country with the world laughing at us.

IF I could live in the Philippines fulltime I would rather live there in poverty than to live here most days! I have spoken to several here, some say do it yourself and save the money, others say to use the services of the Immigration Agent as they have been left in limbo after filling in the paperwork themselves and omitting certain information they did not deem necessary or even spelling mistakes that needed to be corrected meaning they have had to 'grease palms' to get things moving, one guy married his Girl and it is now 7 years since he applied because of incorrect paperwork.

The Immigration Agents are tight lipped as to the process, I have tried explaining that I am not flash with cash, and that I need to save to pay them step by step so it would be great to know what I am up for overall so I can plan for it, but I am only told the first step, pay the $4,500 plus the $2060 then we can go to the next step. If they cannot tell me what the next step will cost then they are not getting my business it is as simple as that!

Also here I must support her for two years before she is entitled to any hand outs, hard to do on a Pension; but I might be able to get my Daughter to Sponsor her and employ her to work for her here which may negate the two year support and payment of $5,000 to Social Security as a back up in case Melinda costs the Tax Payer while she is here...

Everything seems to be shrouded in secrecy, no wonder the Boat people are doing what they are doing...

Go to the Expat Section of the Forum. Look for the thread title : Possibly 21000 to renew a passport.
Then go to post number 14 by Shadow on that thread. Hey presto, you got it all at your fingertips.

I don't think he gives lessons in common sense. You reposted the contact link in your own post.

But just so you know, I have used his services before and was quite satisfied with his findings, my xwife wasn't so satisfied though. (Btw "pointman", I still owe you a beer.)
