Actually I believe that law has been waived, I did a search recently on that subject here, and came up with a post done in August 2012, which shows a new regulation addendum, but I do not know how to put it up here, maybe someone else who knows how, can do so? It seems a new bike can be ridden without penalty until the rego plates are available.

What Wrye83 did is what is called generalising. I agree, it's not a good thing to do on a forum as it could upset people.
But, in traffic it's a very good thing to do, or rather essential as your life depends on it. Here are three cases from real life what to do and not to do when you encounter a Filipino driver.

    1. You try to over take a slower vehicle, e.g. a bus or truck;
DO NOT EXPECT them to make the overtaking easy and safe so you both can go on with your driving.
DO EXPECT them to make it as hard as possible, because being overtaken is a big loss of self esteem in this competition called driving.

    2. You driving on a highway when a vehicle approach it from another road on either side
DO NOT EXPECT them to stop and give way to the traffic on the highway.
DO EXPECT them to drive straight out in (sometime, but not always staying on the right curb side), without even looking either way first.

    3. You overtake one or more slower vehicles and are hence in the left lane
DO NOT EXPECT them to stay in the right lane, and look left before making a U-turn, left turn or just sway left because a stockpile or anything else on the road in front of them
DO EXPECT them to do just the opposite. Turn left, without giving signal, not even looking left/back to see if there are any vehicles overtaking.

#3 is by far the most common reason for accidents. Just the past few months I have had 3 friends in accidents because of that. Two of them ending up in hospital with severe injuries.
I have myself had 3 close encounters because of it, and one hit, when a tricycle driver swayed left to avoid a stockpile when I was already on his left side.

As Wrye83 says, it not *all* but it's by far *too* many to risk being politically correct while driving and not generalising.

well in my observation that is what wry383 is consistently good at - upsetting people particularly filipinos - foreigners come from very different countries and cultures and regulations etc we know that - but what we fail to do is adapt here quickly enough to stop complaining about the environment here particularly on the road - the people here do not know anything else - it is how it is - period - the sooner we learn to adapt and roll with the punches the better life can be here for us - if we continue to expect the people here to drive and ride like we do in our own countries we will continue to have big problems - and we will continue to have less respect from the people

On a typical day of motorizing on the highways and byways of (for the most past) beautiful Negros Oriental, I usually run across much fewer motor vehicle mishaps then I did tooling around in the Great State of Texas.

But the crashes here tend to be real doozies though.

You can always ask for a temporary rego from the bike company where you bought your motorbike and just say youve been pulled over a couple times.

i can completely understand the frustrations of the foreigner drivers here but in philippines its an organized chaos, if you run over someone its less fatalities or injuries whereas to the euro countries, if your doing 110kph more than likely if you get run over youll end up dead.

Some filipinos got their license from a packet of cornflakes, if driving is too hard then get a filipino driver.... Stress free :-)

I completely agree with this. It seems like madness but there is a certain order to it. You can usually predict what a local driver will do.

Dont agree with this so much. Accidents here are much more likely to end up causing death or serious injury. Cars are safer to drive than motorcycles. And most here, sadly, don't wear the proper protective gear while riding. A lot of lives could have been saved by simply wearing a helmet.

Lol You said it, not me. Personally I will never get on a motorcycle with a filipino driver. Just scares the crap out of me.

Well there's no such thing as taking a drivers test before you get a license here and I think you should be scared lol

I have some foreigner friends that can't drive for sh*t either, so apparently a driving test is not going to make people better drivers.
