I had lunch in Valencia today and there were lots of people sporting shinny new helmets.
IvI' mentioned it before, I'll mention it again.
I secure my full face helmet using a dog's choke chain bolted to the bottom of my Ubox, through the chin guard and attach the free end to an existing hook under the seat.
I have a feeling a lot of helmets are going to go missing.

They have also decided to purchase clamps and a tow truck at some point. They deputised 112 new lto staff from the pnp a few weeks back so this means bigger fines if caught.
They are even enforcing the wearing of no slippers now.
I didnt realise until i asked that the reason why you get so many bikes at each end of a check point is the pnp/hpg are not allowed to move from their position so this makes the checkpoint a complete waste of time.-

I just wish it would not take some special OPlan to get the enforcement agencies to do the jobs they were hired for. Now that traffic is definitely on the increase, they need to become more visible and enforcement oriented. Begin now before it gets out of hand and becomes the norm (some will say it already is the norm). Unfortunately, all too often, a traffic law is not enforced until an accident occurs.

When driving a car, one must be extremely attentive to the motorcycle drivers. For example, it is quite unbelievable how they crawl up on the right not knowing that the car is about to turn right. Turn signals do not matter. I tell my wife, “assume all motorcycle drivers and bicyclists are trying to commit suicide. Your job is to prevent THIS vehicle from being used to accomplish that goal”. Indeed, it is as if they have a different view of their own life. They take chances that are not worth the gamble. Ditto for motorcycles at night with lights off and darting out of nowhere. Just assume they are all suicidal and you will take the proper preventative steps. In light of the way they drive their motorbikes, helmet laws will save their lives and prevent many instances of road pizza amongst the local population.

No source to back this up but I think that there could be more lethal motorcycle accidents (per motorcycle accident) in the US due to the higher road speeds and drivers not being on the lookout for motorcycles. There are some things that even the best doctors in the world can't fix.
Agree, but spreading false information can lead others to make uninformed decisions. I used to never wear a helmet because I believed that "limited field of view"/"helmets are a distraction" nonsense...and it is just that, complete and total nonsense. Luckily I came to my senses prior to my accident. A helmet saved my life (or, at the very least, saved me from severe head trauma that could have taken months/years to recover from, if ever, and millions of pesos in hospital bills).-

I have to agree with that. More important taking crazy drivers, those without proper lights, those not using turn signals, and so forth off the road. Personal safety is a personal choice and the issue should be the safety of others on the road. They have laws about all of that but still as always completely unenforced.
A big issue I dislike helmets here is all they have is the big clunky helmets while I'd much prefer an easier to carry around one but they aren't allowed as they don't have ICC stickers because the congressmen who passed the law only had the other kind shipped in to profit from. No place around town from Hypermart, Lee Plaza, or Robinsons allows you to check your helmet while shopping to avoid carrying around big annoying helmets which will just make you want to spend less time shopping. Further its not easy to modify the helmet and not everyone wants to damage their bike to install a helmet chain so no one steals your helmet and you just leave it on your bike,
Another part I'm sure they won't enforce is besides children's helmets the law also made it illegal to have children under the age of 10 as passengers.
As far as pants and shoes goes if that was ever enforced the Philippines would seriously lose its appeal to me completely. Its to d*mn hot to wear pants, not everyone can find a comfortable fitting size here, and some of us are uncomfortable wearing around shoes and pants along with some of us likely having some medical issues that make it rough in the high heat.-

Lol yes Brian that was my reaction when I posted it.
I heard the last time they tried in duma the head guy got moved to Bohol or somewhere as it was so unpopular!
Moving from Cebu City where it is rigorously applied nowadays it surprised me that no one hardly bothers here in what is a fairly large town oops city.-

Assume all motorcycle riders, bicyclists and pedestrians are suicidal. Assume all car, truck and bus drivers are homicidal.

Agreed. But it is also an undeniable fact that living in the USA, near a good hospital, with good insurance, will save far more lives than moving to Dumaguete, Philippines. And yet we have the choice to move here. The only justification is we like it and we are not affecting anyone other than ourselves. The choice to wear a helmet should be the same, so long as it is not affecting anyone other than ourselves. IMHO.
It is also my opinion that I prefer it when others do not wear helmets for two reasons. In an accident where they run into my car with their motorcycle, their helmetless bodies are likely to do less damage to my car and the incident will cost me less money as they will likely be dead and thus unable to avoid the blame. Darwin's law (survival of the fittest) at work.-

The mayor just said that within the last 48 hours or something like? I just been assuming the mayor or some big council member got a new shipment of helmets and this was just the next push for a week to sell that stock before they say nevermind again.-
