Oh, and in addition to the above, new information coming out of the US is that this virus has now muted to a Gxxxx version where it was originally categorized as a Dxxxx. (Published by an Australian news source, part copied here from a US source) The mutation is seen to be mainly in the USA and some parts of Europe and is shown to be a lot more viral in spread, something like 5 and up to 10 times more, but the infection itself and the danger to health remains about what it was. When the first coronavirus cases in Chicago appeared in January, they bore the same genetic signatures as a germ that emerged in China weeks before. But as Egon Ozer, an infectious-disease specialist at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, examined the genetic structure of virus samples from local patients, he noticed something different. A change in the virus was appearing again and again. This mutation, associated with outbreaks in Europe and New York, eventually took over the city. By May, it was found in 95 percent of all the genomes Ozer sequenced. At a glance, the mutation seemed trivial. About 1,300 amino acids serve as building blocks for a protein on the surface of the virus. In the mutant virus, the genetic instructions for just one of those amino acids — number 614 — switched in the new variant from a “D” (shorthand for aspartic acid) to a “G” (short for glycine).
For those hanging on to the "the more you test the more you find" argument, here's some food for thought (kudos to Kilam63 for pointing out the website). As is clear from the graph, almost all European countries and Canada need to do between 100 and 175 tests per day to find a single new case. The USA and Sweden are the exceptions, with 15 and 8 tests per new case.
I wonder, why still the (other) in the title? Should it not be "Comparison between USA and the developed nations" ? (for the thin skinned under us.... joke lang. (or is it a joke?)
and many of the countries reporting more cases are also doing more tests per million, such as the US and GB, et cet
