    Behind the scenes in the Philippines: There's no such thing as a free lunch

    Rumors are flying around that a Duterte win could trigger a coup by establishment parties, or at least recounting of votes and other administrative and procedural, as well as possibly legal, means to stall a power transition.

    The flip-side risk is Duterte mobilizing supporters in response, for civic action at least. There's also talk paramilitaries could be involved. Some voters are still nervous about Duterte's links with Communist groups. He's denied he's a Communist, says he's left-leaning rather than card-carrying.

    Former President Fidel Ramos is quoted saying, ''If you're planning a coup, consult me first''. He was only half-joking, which suggests no one's run the idea by him.

    The political eminence grise still carries weight and influence with many sides. Ramos encouraged Duterte to run, but is confident he'll respect the law. Ramos was key to ousting Marcos, and had a significant hand in both People Power revolutions. As President Cory Aquino's defense minister he also thwarted nine coup attempts. He's 88, but still a game-changer.​

    Seems to me that the government cannot be fixed until the supreme court is fixed. If he tries to do anything without approval from the supreme court then it will fizzle. If he over-rules the supreme court then he will be starting a rebellion.

    Amid the clear violations of the automated election law, and widespread fear of massive electoral fraud, the May 9 presidential polls reported an incredible turnout of 81 percent, and gave PDP presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte a roaring landslide, which President B.S. Aquino 3rd and the other presidential candidates will be hard put to challenge, even if they should want to.

    But they obviously do not want to. Contrary to our earlier fears that none of the losing presidential candidates would recognize the winner, none of them have questioned the apparent landslide of Mayor Duterte. Sen. Grace Poe Llamanzares, whose doubtful natural-born Filipino citizenship has sown doubts and confusion upon the entire presidential process, was the first to concede defeat after Duterte posted 14.4 million votes out of 41 million votes reportedly cast and 37 million counted.

    Roxas followed suit on Tuesday afternoon, after the unofficial quick count gave Duterte 15,245,930 votes, Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas 9,183,938 votes, and Mrs. Llamanzares 8,542,159 votes.

    But trouble could be brewing in the vice-presidential race.

    Many found Duterte the most dangerous man to put in high office. For this reason, they hoped UNA’s Vice President Jejomar C. Binay would perform a miracle, or that the LP standard-bearer Mar Roxas could catch up. But even those who did not vote for him are now genuinely grateful that he made sure that a former American citizen with a natural-born American husband and of no known biological parentage would be sitting as our President just because nine Supreme Court Justices had decided, against the clear language and spirit of the Constitution, that Mrs. Llamanzares was “qualified” to run for President.

    That Supreme Court ruling destroyed the Constitution, the Court itself and the presidential system, which requires a president to be, among other things, a natural-born citizen who has lived in the country for at least 10 years immediately preceding the elections. I didn’t think I could, as lead petitioner before the Commission on Elections and the Supreme Court against the Llamanzares candidacy, live with that. I worried more about having someone of questionable citizenship in the presidency than having someone who had killed criminals in his war against crime. The fight is now between Aquino and the Filipino people

    Just takes balls to find someone on the supreme court that has some dirt or has a connection to a case that didn't recuse themselves and then arrest them on breach of office and ethics and there are possible criminal charges. The catch is when a President has the balls to take down a competitor branch that has been corrupt it will scare the crap out of the others and as long as the President does it in full view of the people making sure to have the people behind him it will be hard to undue.

    How its supposed to be is no branch is over another and they all provide checks on the others. Yet who really has been providing checks on the supreme court.

    In other news not making the mainstream yet reports of massive voter irregularities. A number of reports of votes for Duterte switching to Roxas but nothing major on that. But the real catch is a lot of reports from voters in precincts claiming that VP and Senator votes being switched to Roxas supporters.

    Its looking like they saw they couldn't beat Duterte so instead they are fixing the Senate and the VP to be full Roxas buddies. Then of course w/o a supportive VP and an anti Duterte Senate it will really be hard for Duterte to do much. Further if some accident happens to Duterte then hey, we know who's running the country again....
