The link is pretty good. Thank you for sharing. I am little bit more confident now. Mayve, hopefully, it is something once dibe you are wondering why you had so many concerns. But still I see myself sitting on the roof with a dish in ine hand abd a smartphone in the other. Anyhow, I gurss I will give it a try.
Good morning, I hope your Starlink system is still doing fine. I am curious to learn how you did find the best location of your router. Did you follow a certain procedure by using adequate tools ? Or it's just try and error ? Thinking about to relocate my router as well, no Starlink, but don't know exactly how to spot the best place for it. Grateful for any hint, thanking in advance.
Hi Stefan, Siting the router for Starlink is a doddle as the app will check the coverage as you walk through your property. As for other routers it's all a bit trial and error really - it pays to remember that wifi "likes" open spaces and that the signals travel in straight lines (line of sight) so any walls or significant obstructions will degrade the signal. You can crudely test the position by siting your router and connecting your phone wifi to it, then move around the property noting the signal strength (wait around 30 seconds at each location for the signal to register). You can then move the router and repeat (laborious I know). Alternatively you could invest in wifi extenders or a mesh system to give you better coverage - it all depends on your requirements and budget.
Lazada sells a repeater (not sure if that's the proper name) for about 300 pesos. The repeater plugs into the 220 volt power outside the house. It provides a pretty good signal at 50 metres. My unit is made by TPLink who are a fairly reliable company. Setup is fairly simple. Just download their app and follow the simple instructions.
Good morning Senjenbing, Thanks for your reply and explanations. I will give it a try. Especially a mesh systems could increase my coverage hopefully. My requirements are pretty simple. All I need is around 25 MBPS speed. Actually I got this only after midnight, lets say from around 11 p.m. till 6 a.m.. During the day soeed is between 5 and maybe 11, what isn't sufficient. I am using a vpn to get connected to a data server in Europe for 2 or 3 days a week. It's kind of annoying that I can only do that during night. Hence I am interested in everything that allows me to have an average speeed of at least 25 during the day. Thanks for your reply.
Stefan, while finding a better spot for your router and/or installing additional hardware like a repeater may help with the WiFi coverage in and around your home, it will do nothing to get better speed from your provider.
Good morning Dutchie, Thanks for your kind reply. I will remember that and certainly consider your advice before making future investments.
