Hi Sedona, agree about the workers transmission.. Also thanks and I saw that "pipe theory" also. I spent some 50 years working with and designing piping systems for buildings and ships. I don't believe a word of it. I think someone is twisting the facts to cover up more normal methods of transmission, incompetence and corruption other than "pipes." Panicking over "pipes" is 98% a waste of time and energy.
No, those 500 infected healthcare workers was a tally reached by the middle of January (so they got infected before the alarms were raised and hospital staff were directed to wear protective suits). Yes, legally Hong Kong is part of China, but practically not quite. And no, the first patient in the building there was not a woman but a man, and he wasn't in quarantine. Well, if 4 more infected people equals "many other residents" then you'd be right, but to me 5 people in a building that has 840 apartments doesn't quite equal "many" There were 30 apartments evacuated because of the pipe thingy, but if "all residents" in those 30 apartments were now infected, the Hong Kong confirmed cases would have jumped way beyond where it actually sits right now.
Whilst a name is not important if you catch a disease (only so the health professionals can talk among themselves with a common language), the new name is Covid-19. "On Tuesday, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared an official name for the new coronavirus disease: COVID-19 — making sure not to reference Wuhan, the central Chinese city where the virus originated. COVID-19 stands for Corona Virus Disease 19." This is from https://time.com/5782284/who-name-coronavirus-covid-19/ but there are dozens of other sources.
Googling this I found: “Search Results WHO had earlier given the virus the temporary name of "2019-nCoV acute respiratory disease" and China's National Health Commission this week said it was temporarily calling it "novel coronavirus pneumonia" or NCP. "We now have a name for the #2019nCoV disease: COVID-19.” So you are correct. I sort of thought the temporary NCP name from China Public Health was better because it indicates a pneumonia type of disease. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In the UK NCP is a Car Park Company. Many diseases have no clue in them as to what they are: Ebola, Marburg, Chikungunya (a favourite name of mine), Lassa fever, Kuru (spread by cannibalism) to name just a few. Many names are from the location where first discovered but WHO is avoiding labelling Wuhan or China - for obvious reasons.
Sure. But for the purposes of this discussion, I believe it is important to understand that viral pneumonia is the deadliest aspect of this disease and unlike Ebola and the others, the Chinese temporary designation did correctly indicate that characteristic, National car parks in the UK not withstanding. We seem to have been diverted to the flippant and who really cares what the correct name it is.We all know what it is, where it started and a reasonable idea of how it started without all the conspiracy stuff. What we need to know isd how prevalent is it in Dumaguete and elsewhere in the Philippines coz there is one hell of a lot of travelling going on between the the provinces. Some truth would help coz this thing isnt just the flu that will cause a few sniffles and some aches and pain. It kills people.
Just copied this from the latest post by an Australian Channel 9 TV news station ....Lets not get complacent. This is todays news, The Chinese province at the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak has reported a record rise in the death toll, as global health experts warned the epidemic could get far worse before it is brought under control. Health officials in Hubei province said 242 people had died from the flu-like virus on Wednesday, the fastest rise in the daily count since the pathogen was identified in December, and bringing the total number of deaths in the province to 1,310. The previous record rise in the toll was 103 on February 10.
