Well, ok, no rent and I suspect no aircon. No car expenses, small utility bills and no water bills. The one big problem I would have is no aircon, that’s just the way it is. I lived in NC and FL and always needed aircon & I need it here. When I grew up in WI I didn’t need it. So, aircon costs about $200-$300 a month between DGTE and Siquijor. That would pull a big chunk out of the $860. Helper costs about $80.00 per month for 1. Adding rent for a house, gas/diesels for cars, water, cable, globe@home, $100.00 per week for for food (2 plus helper), going out to eat and I am way over $860.00 and not by any means extravagant. Brian can do it but I could never be as minimalist as that, nor, do I think, could a 26 yr old kid who is looking for the stimulation in life that youth usually expects [emoji846]

livee well? no. live? yes. my suggstion would be finds an online income to supplement your disablity, but get it working before you make the leap. if you can just earn another $500/month it will make a huge differnece in your lifestyle here. and have some savings to, say $10,000 wouold be good. don;t give up on your dream, it is doable, just prepare better.

I would disagree with that. You pay less and get much lower quality. You will get much more bang for your buck in the US. Probably not so much in Europe or Australia from the prices and tax rates I see coming from those places. The US is still one of the cheapest places in the world to live.

Yes it is very possible for a single man to live on $860 per month here. Dumaguete prices are inflated. You will also find that the prices on the internet are inflated. You can find a very reasonable rental outside of the city or in another city which is close by. You do not need to live poorly or to make many sacrifices as some would lead you to believe. You do not need to live way out in a rural area.

You need to find a Filipina (or Filipino) that you trust to find things for you. Once someone sees a foreigner, the price goes up. The Filipina would set the price and then you would show up.

Many foreigners want to be around other foreigners. But why come half way around the world? You will find that the people here are very friendly and accepting. There are scammers but just avoid them and you will be fine.

Yes there are some things that are frustrating like brown outs and corruption, but this a unique and wonderful place. You will find that your money goes a lot farther here.

Depends on which additional aids you will get in the US if being on low income it could be better to stay in the US or searching a cheaper country. BTW many people even with good salaries have to live in trailers in the US because the rental costs of apartments and houses are exploding especially in the California area.

I take offense to to being called "trailer park quality People". For me "trailer park quality People" is just politically correct for "Trailer trash" and I consider it an insult. In the first place I give away more money each month than what we are talking about here. I do not drink or smoke and I'm married to a Dumaguete woman for more than 30 years. I retired here because I got d*mn tired of Alaska winters, 35 0f them. I suppose in my drinking days that label would have fit, 39 years ago. :dead: :banghead:

That's not enough for me to "do well". I would be quite miserable on that budget.

If the government had originally decided to allow you to invest your earnings as you or your financial advisor saw fit, then you could have simply managed your earnings growth throughout your working life and then purchased an annuity on a competitive private market with no conditions as to how to use the proceeds that you own. Even mild forms of socialism have a certain bureaucratic arrogance that wants to control where you live, where to spend your own money with no concerns about the individual preferences of their citizens. So now they get to live a life with less excitement and adventure in Denmark until they die. Not much different in my own country (US) except that so far we can still live outside the US and collect 100% until some liberal Congress decides our money must be spent at home.

Ain't that the truth in every aspect of life... complainers from expats to religion to politics to.... ALWAYS have big mouths and only occasionally have a valid point.
