I like that post. You are the only one I have ever seen that puts his foot in his mouth more than me. Just be aware that, "It ain't a home 'til you take the wheels off." And in my own defense, please know that I am not here by choice or permanently and have a nice permanent home waiting for me in the USA. I am doing time until I can escape with my gf. (and yes she is over 40) No offense to those that are here by choice. I thought what you said was funny but you will hear some different opinions I'm sure.

Can I offer my best advice to you - please just read what people say but make YOUR OWN decisions, especially about yourself. I can tell you are a good person, with admirable qualities - that is all that matters. Let no-one label you. I consider myself way above what the term "trailer trash" implies and so I just read it as something Mr Wyre says in his 'no holds barred' way. I found it amusing but not offensive BECAUSE I just don't get offended.

You can survive on that amount, but you will, by no means, live "well", meaning you will have to live more like the locals and less like most foreigners would like to. You would be wise to save some money and have a nest egg in the bank to fall back on before you decide to make the move.

Then I wasn't talking about you. I didn't say "all" expats we're trailer trash. The only people that should get offended are the ones that the shoe fits.

Does it really need to be explained?

Meet my family from America. With the $860.00, do I get to collect food stamps and free cheese or no?

Here is an apartment in Valencia for rent (10k PHP per month) with free water and Wifi. And there is a swimming pool. Because it is in Valencia your consumation on electrical energy will be lower as well.

Why bother? Obviously it would be a great decision to pack up and move to a foreign country and be poor instead. Lol

That post was not from the TS.

I was looking around on OLX, if there are apartments available for 8k PHP / month and below in the Philippines. The answer is yes. And the surprise is, that most of them are available in the NCR area and surrounding provinces. In Negros Oriental you will have to search on your own locally or hire a friend to search for you.

I think it hit a nerve with me because when I was an Alcohol Junky that label surly would have fit. I drank my last 6 pack in Aug. 1978.
Not to hijack the man's post; $860.oo a month? No it is NOT enough because you new G/F is going to require ten times that amount. You need to remember that USA food stamps, VA medical and Medicaid / Medicare are, nonexistent and no good in the Philippines. If you really want to live here you need to secure a good out of this country income BEFORE you make the move. The Philippine's Immigrations is not going to allow homeless persons to stay very long. So prepare yourself before trying to full fill your dream of moving to an Island in the South Pacific.

Not my real family of course lol but as poor as they are, living in a trailer park, they are quite well to do by Philippine standards. The probably even have a car. My point is that one would be much better off living in the USA on $860.00 per month disability than here in the Philippines. Here, if you cannot afford food, you don’t eat. If no money or insurance for the hospital you can die. $860.00 is not enough here but probably enough in the USA with cheap to free housing, free food, free medical courtesy the taxpayers.
