    Do you think I can use a Japan-made gas oven in the Philippines? Has anyone here brought stuff from their home countries?

    There is a difference regards the type of gas that gas ovens run meaning it may be unwise to purchase an oven from abroad? :o o:

    I bought a Germania 4-burner gas stove with oven (complete stove as we know it, in other words). Bought it from Centrum Appliances for 19,000 pisos. And a gas bottle and regulator for around 4,000 pisos. Works very well - do roasts, casseroles (and anything with coriander...). Gas supply lasts about 3 months.

    Sorry of this is off-topic but, I have to ask... :cautious:

    I have noticed the Gas here smells like gasoline and sometimes it burns a sooty flame and smells similar to benzine/toluene like you smell in poor quality unleaded gasoline's, unlike the LPG Gas used in Australia. Would there be a danger using the local gas here in an enclosed oven where the fumes/soot might contaminate the foods being cooked? I know LPG is safe to use in Oz, but here it almost smells like it is a compressed liquid gasoline instead of the gas like we have back home that burns cleanly.

    I could only answer this by putting a link up about a product I use and I would hazard a guess that most of the other suppliers are the same;
    Solane: Cooking with gas made safer and easier
    I am not really sure if it is off topic or not but I am sure one of the team will move it if it is but it was asked and now answered. Hope it satisfies your curiosity Brian.
    BTW we have a LA Germania 4 ring Cooker with fan Oven and never had a problem, in fact I have never heard of any problems from those I know that have Gas ranges. :wink:
