Please keep one thing in mind when crossing a busy street or highway: it might be more dangerous for a car or truck to stop and wave you across than to keep going. If a vehicle stops suddenly anywhere, it is in grave danger of being rear ended, but even more so, and most of us have seen this happen or witnessed the aftermath, if a car or truck stops for a pedestrian, it is likely that following vehicles will speed around to the right, thus smashing into the person who thinks he or she is safe from the traffic.

Simply wave to the friendly tourist please to assist you. They are always walking the blvd looking to help foreigners and never standing in the shade. Then while crossing give a huge smile and wave to the locals driving and they will smile and stop for you.
