I have not been out in town to eat for a LONG time. I'm needing to take my girl out for a nice night and want some info about where would be good.

Plan on food, movie and some drinks. Maybe disco disco later if things are going good.

Food - want somewhere we can both enjoy. Good western and local food. No loud music. First idea is Casa Blanca but I am open to try something new. Don't want a commercialized, and crowded, resto like Moooooooon (I hate their spelling.....and food), Pasta King or any resto that has a presence in the mall. Coco Amigo has horrible food in my opinion but that is the type of atmosphere I'm looking for.

Movie - only one option for that.

Drinks - somewhere we can go have a drink without a crazy crowd, very loud bands or a disco. I'd prefer a place that can serve decent mixed drinks/cocktails. I am thinking edelweiss if there are not too many loud/drunk Germans and Austrians there. Sun Down (near the gas station across Robinsons), Tiki Bar (near Hayahay), or Blue Monkey are my other thoughts. Is there a cocktail bar in Dumaguete?

These are my ideas. I haven't been out (other than the discos) for a while now. Not sure if any new places have popped up.

Btw, I am not willing to drive out towards or past Bacong. That road is WAY too dangerous at night. That resto out in Dauin is off limits in my books for personal reason anyways.

    Mias and Bambulo

I have two places that seem to get good feedback from the ladies. Mias (by the airport) always gets a good comment. I really think the food there is some of the best in Dumaguete (even if it may not be in Dumaguete). It has some great food both western and native. If you eat by the pool it is a very quiet and peaceful romantic atmosphere with background music also. Most times you are by yourself, the most people I have seen there beside us is about 8 people, most times part of our meal is eaten alone. You can also swim there if you like, I am not sure when the pool closes.. I would not recommend staying inside the restaurant as it seems like it is not what you are looking for, unless you want the noise of a pool table, and a few Filipino karaoke singers who should not be singing out loud anywhere.

The other place is Bambulo on the road between Bacong and Valencia. The atmosphere is very nice, again if you like quiet, and being one of the only couples there (during week nights). There is background music. The pool has a fountain, waterfall, slide and colored night lights. I believe the pool is open til 9, but 8 for sure. I can not say a lot about the food. My favorites are the sandwiches, which says a lot about the other choices on the menu. They are in the process of adding pizza ovens, but I do not think they are completed. The have a drink "Milky Rum" which is very good. If you have two much to drink there are cottages for rent which are as nice as any I have seen in Dumaguete or almost anywhere else in the Philiipines. Their breakfasts are great if you get lucky.

Good luck on your night out. Both of these places have a great romantic atmosphere is my opinion.

I had completely forgotten about mia's. Been forever since I've been there. What western dishes are they doing a good job with these days? My girl likes to play billiards and you can rent by the hour so inside is good for me. We have a pool at home so that can be dealt with when the night is over and the drinks have kicked in. (My neighbors hate me lol seniority......shoulda done more research before you moved in.)

Western choices on the Menu at Mias

Well I really do not know the name of the dish. When I go there the waitress said you want the same thing you had two weeks ago with potates, then I will get if for you. She blew me away. The memories of Filipinas are fantastic, I did not even recognize the waitress much less remember what the name of the dish was. OF COARSE AS WE ALL KNOW THEIR GOOD MEMORIES WORK FOR US AND AGAINST US. I really have not had a bad meal at Mias. The waitress ordered the one with mashed potatoes, and pork on the Western dish menu page about the third item down.

The meals are full size and you never go away hungry.

    Good luck

I like the chicken cordon bleu at Tierra Alta w/great mashed potatoes. Something like p225; the other chicken offering are P2xx as well.

Other dishes there can be skimpy/overpriced. The view is tremendous

Right, Mia's is great. I forget about that place because it is kind of out of the way, but still easy to get to. Like most places in Dumaguete, the food isn't spectacular enough that I always want to go there and eat but added with everything else it can make for a great night. It's also a nice place to get away from the typical expat hangouts.
