Listening to a radio station yesterday, they interviewed the wife of the driver of the truck, she said he was drunk and that he had problems that should have stayed in the house, but unfortunately ended up on the road, and created this tragedy, 3 dead and more injured, can’t understand why people hit the bottle when there is a problem, alcohol makes you more depressed and the problem is still there when you are sober and likely to be bigger.

I thought the driver in the easy rider might have survived, makes me wonder if the medic gave drugs to counter act the chemical released by the body that will kill you, if you released by the untrained.

From the video it is obvious, that the truck was in the left side of the road, and that the driver of the multicap tried to avoid the collission by turning to the right, but unfortunatly to late. Why the truck was in the left side of road, I think we should leave it to police investigation to find out. Maybe the driver was drunk, but there could also be other explanations.

What is sure is, that the construction of the multicap contributed to the fatal outcome of the crash. From the video its very obvious to see, that due to the complete lack of a crash zone and position of the driver and front row passengers right in front of the vehicle, there was no survival room at all. Almost the entire space, where the driver was sitting, is filled up with truck. For this reason the driver and probably also the front row passengers had no chance of survival, and presumably they were killed instantly.

So in a way poverty also contributed to these fatalities. In a country with higher pr. capita income, vehicles such as multicaps would never be allowed on the roads and certainly not for public transport. So maybe next time you go somewhere, take a big bus rather than one of these multicaps, which are basically death traps on wheels. And if you have to ride a multicap, at least try to get a seat in the back of the vehicle to increase your chance of surviving an accident.

The multicab is the only vehicle to be produced by both Ford and Chevy. You can buy them in the US used still. The VW beetles used to be quite dangerous as well but it was widely accepted in the US. Convenience, cheap repairs and the good gas mileage are more important than safety to some people. It's a personal choice.

What would be the name of a Ford or Chevy multicab in the US? It's been a while since I have been there, but I cannot place any multicab in the US, Ford or Chevy, new or used.

The Suzuki multicab was produced by Ford and Chevy, or they made a similar body style?

The Ford and Chevy products were much larger and really aren't comparable except in the cab forward design.

If at all, I would think that the truck really is the vehicle that should not be allowed on the road anymore, practically all really nasty accidents are caused by this ill maintained trucks that are mostly owned by people that should not be allowed to own a vehicle at all, this people disregard the need to keep the trucks safe...
In this case the truck may have been well maintained but as everybody noticed, it barely had a scratch to it's body, anybody thinking that this would have been much different if the multicab would have been a bigger SUV, would probably be surprised, one could survive this scenario much better for sure but the truck would still shake it off with not much damage...

I agree. There is not much here that would survive a head on onslaught by a truck such as this one without severe trauma. Even a Ceres bus would probably have had casualties. It is basically irrelevant WHAT vehicle got into a head on with this beast, anything short of a train or another truck of the same caliber would lose.

The Suzuki carry has been marketed under several different*badges*around the world: Bedford Rascal (UK), GME Rascal (France), Daewoo Damas (Worldwide), Chevrolet Super Carry (Colombia and Venezuela), Chevrolet CMV/CMP (Central America), Holden Scurry (Australia), Maruti Omni, Maruti Versa, Ford Pronto, Mazda Scrum, and Mitsubishi Colt T120SS.

Yes, correct. But GM or Ford did not produce those vehicles, Suzuki did, and they were marketed under many differing names/badges. Suzuki was making multicabs (Kei Trucks) since 1949. None to my knowledge were ever imported to the US.

That depends on the combined speed of the 2 vehicles. This accident happened within the Dauin city limit, so I don´t think the combined speed was particularly high. And in that case its entirely possible, that the driver and front seat passenger could have walked away from the accident with only minor injuries, if they had been driving a modern passenger car with protective cell around the cabin, airbags and seatbelts.

If the truck was roadworthy or not is hardly the issue here, unless it ended up in the wrong side of the road because of a failing steering or tire blowout or so. And there is no indication, that was the case. All published evidence point exclusively at driver error as the cause of the accident.
