Saw this on FaceBook today (April 09, 2021).
    Things are getting better.
SUMC Heart Institute made its first cardiac procedure on NegOr
To improve its service to the community, the SUMC Heart Institute paves the way to do minimally invasive, minor to moderate cardiovascular procedures.
Last April 7, 2021, a groundbreaking cardiac procedure, the first of its kind in the province, was performed at the SUMC Operating Room.
This was made possible with the upgraded team of the Heart Institute with the addition of cardiovascular specialists who performed the procedure.
Dr. Erwyn G. Novilla, a Board-Certified Cardiovascular Surgeon who had his training both in Singapore and the Philippine Heart Center, was the primary doctor who performed the procedure. Dr. Novilla garnered 3rd place in the medical licensure exam during his time.
Dr. Neil Vincent J. Sanico, also a Board certified Cardiovascular surgeon having received his training from the Philippine Heart Center ably assisted Dr. Novilla.
Dr. Mitzi G. Chio, a board-Certified specialist who practices Adult Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology, assisted with the procedure. She completed her training at the St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) Heart Institute in Quezon City. Dr. Chio specializes in inserting cardiac catheters, coronary angiograms, and angioplasty.
SUMC HI will offer all these services once the Cath Lab is in full swing.
With the upgraded team of cardiovascular specialists, the current capability of the SUMC HI include the following:
    •Carotid endarterectomy
    •Vascular access procedures
•Interventions for chronic venous insufficiency: vein stripping and phlebectomy
    •Interventions for peripheral artery disease: thrombectomy/embolectomy, endarterectomy/ anatomic & extra-anatomic bypass
    •Elective abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
    •Temporary and Permanent pacemaker insertion

If you call the Dr's office you will be given a number and put on a list.
If you want to walk-in that's okay but you will be at the end of the line. She works at SUMC and ACES so you should probably call and see where she will be.

Dr. Dipatado (female) is my neurologist. She is getting up there in age, not sure if I would want her to operate on my brain but I respect her treatment. When I had a stroke, she may have helped be survive and understand my disabilities going forward.

I had a dentist in my home country who drove a Mercedes. That's fine, but he would never have a nurse in the surgery with him - during treatment he would constantly glance at his computer screen at current stock market prices!

He advertised himself as very understanding of nervous patients - but asked my ex-wife (whom he knew to be a dental-phobic) why she was shaking! Even worse, he finished a consultation with a form on which he usually wrote something like "Weak, crumbly tooth. Needs immediate treatment to stop severe pain" and stated he needed half the fee immediately (this was to tie the worried patient into treatment). About 30 years ago he charged £500 for an 'overlay', which was actually just a filling - the normal cost of a filling was about £40. He was then found guilty of doing unnecessary work on patients - but was allowed to continue practicing!

I once thought all medical/dental practitioners did so because of a deep-seated desire to help people - but I no longer believe that, as for many the lure of the cash is greater. Probably nothing wrong with that, as everyone works to earn - but we just need to be aware of it when we are told what treatment we require. Second opinions should be a must.

What I know is they do perform head surgery here but I am not sure if they do it with success. I know someone who had to travel to Cebu for this sort of procedure.

Dr. Ong is an Internal Medicine specialist. ☺️

An oncologist takes over when there is a cancer diagnosis and you require cancer treatment. In the case of my mother, she had gastro issues and so we went to a specialist who dealt in gastro issues. Upon testing and confirming pancreatic cancer, she was referred to an oncologist for treatment.
