I go to Private Garden frequently if its the same place you are thinking of. I go at breakfast time with a handful of other guys and they cook the breakfasts one at a time so if you were #50 of 50 guys then you would get your breakfast at about supper time.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about Santa Monica Resort. I wonder if the fee only covers usage of the pool. I can't imagine they would charge you 500 pesos just for the privilege of eating at their restaurant. Otherwise, there isn't anything else to do there that I know of. It's just a decent location with a lot of space.

I know that Dave has been out for several years and I haven't been to Private Garden since. I only know / care about places which pop up on my radar through word of mouth. I have been hearing about Private Garden being a decent place again lately. That's the only reason I mention it. I would like to go check it out one of these days.

Right, I have been hearing about it more and more.

Now that I think about it, I don't think any of our past DI meetings from back in the day had 40 people. Private Garden probably isn't big enough anyways.

Sounds like food logistics is an issue.

Most foreigner places are probably about the same.

Garcia's is another option, but only if DI could take the place over and if it was 40 people or under. That place could probably fit nearly 40 people and it would be tight, but everyone would have a place to sit down. They do brick oven pizzas and they can crank those things out pretty quickly. Those ovens get hot and the pizzas don't take long to cook. You would have to get a head count before going this route. This place is basically a hole in the wall. (10 at the bar, a few people can sit at the long table opposite the bar, and they have probably 6 or 7 tables which can fit 4 - 5 people.)

Ugh, sorry for the forum spam. I voted Hayahay.

My first post was probably off. I'm assuming that the members would be here more on the early side rather than the later site. Early in the day, DI would have this place all to itself. You have to make sure it's staffed up though. When I go during the day I often order (pizza) straight from the cooks, get it delivered by the cooks, get my drink from the bar, sit myself and then flag down a waitress when I want to leave.

I can't believe that anyone living here has never been to Hayahay. For me, the place defines Dumaguete much like the Boulevard. The treehouse theme is great, the food is among the best in the city and it has a great view. For anyone who hasn't been there, it will be a treat.

When night comes, the stragglers will be fine. By that time the night people will have their tables occupied and the band would be a good change of environment.

Food is probably important and few foreigner places here have much of a kitchen (and many have no passion for the food.)

I still think Garcia's would be a decent consideration in the future depending on what the headcount would be and if they would close it off for DI.

A few months ago we had a get together at La Fiesta (which you missed, of course). We expected 20-25, by the end of the afternoon the headcount was somewhere near 40. This meet has the possibilities of even more attendees. 30 people in Garcias would pretty much pack the place, there would be little options for 20 or so more.
