The Philippines may have strict laws but they go completely ignored. I can't walk 10 feet without seeing something throwing trash on the ground. Some main areas are still basically public outdoor urinals for males especially pedicab drivers. The boulavard is common for scum to sh&t right next to the seats and so forth. The beach where I currently live at we tried paying some guys to clean up and next day its trashed again because of squatters nearby and come weekend nearby locals come and swim and leave all their trash strewn about. At this point the only solution is bullets as you can't teach these idiots to use a trashcan 10 feet from them or use a toilet, even burn their own trash rather then thrown in the ocean. Warnings do nothing, can't afford to throw them all in jail and don't have the space, to costly to round them all up and ship them off to mindinao. Sometimes gotta treat them like a filthy dog they are.
Well let's go a step further then. Almost NO modern diesel engine, in decent condition and properly cared for, will smoke under normal correct operating conditions, except for the mild "grey haze". For that matter we can include gasoline engines too. Larry
I think I've known you long enough outside this forum, to spot not just a little 'irony' in your last comments. The latter question/statement(?) I take, (or at least, sincerely hope), is rhetorical.........!
To answer your question directly, I currently have a two diesel engined vehicles (amongst the 6, I have had in DGT over the last 23+ years) and 3 gasoline engined ones (amongst the 5, over the same period) and damned right, none of them smoke. I have taken the trouble, time, effort and money to ensure that all of them are/were in good condition, as I still do today, as my and my family's life may depend on them and their working condition. I have personally made sure that they have all been properly serviced as per the handbooks/service manuals that were either supplied with them as new vehicles or took the trouble to go to internet to find these. In the days before the 'net, I went to 'qualified mechanics' if they were second hand, (and there are very few of those left in this town).
It amazes me also that they will buy a new bike/car and that's it,no servicing/maintenance until it goes bang or stops working! Again it's down to lack of education and of course cash, and I really don't think they care either. It seems to me after asking a few of them the attitude is if it works leave it alone, when it breaks fix it. When I was trying to get my car serviced it took me nearly 3 weeks to get an air filter and whilst asking around the part shops the answer was "why would you want to change the air filter sir"!! Idiots, and this was part shops...
Mate, it is you who is confusing them... just stick to the universal repair & maintenance-outlines and you have no problems:
Interesting - Are there others here who can not only see the negatives of living in this City, but also the positives, or am I the only one ? For example: It is never cold here the cost of living is far better than any of the Countries that we call home (I of course assume we includes most foreigners-if I have erred there, please forgive me - the women here are absolutely lovely there are actually some Phil people here who are very nice and polite and well educated, I have actually met some. Maybe many of you others have not perhaps ? :D Paul.
Paul, I think on balance there have been many positive posts. There are probably fewer positive topics in numbers but they are based around big subject matter like cost of living here vs home, beautiful ladies here vs the big ex, dive sites, weather, etc. Most are older posts and guys are not going to repeat themselves when a provocative thread comes out, if they already expressed themselves. The negative posts, as I read them (and contribute to) are primarily focused on what most westerners find unhealthy and unacceptable because they should not be: dumping trash freely, fuel pollution, pissing on every block, crazy drivers, etc. I think if one was to put a weighting factor on positive and negative post subjects, you might find the positive number would be higher, which may be why all of us are still here. Peace.
