I agree about the water. We cook with ONLY mineral water, and vegetables are washed with mineral water. We use city water only for cleaning the floor and doing dishes. Luckily our Tank is on the roof so most times we wash with heated water. Employee sanitation is something that we monitor constantly. Not the most glamorous job. ....We also are proactive in wiping the bar and dining furniture down with bleach solution to combat sore eyes and other transmitable problems.
I wanted to add. We are an enclosed Aircon Sports Bar. I think this helps provide a more sanitary enviroment. Sitting along the roadside watching the dust swirl around and settle on my plate is not my idea of the most appetising meal. While I have been know to try local roadside cuisine for the experience. It was just that, an experience. While we can not be sure where each of our customers have been previously to their arrival here. We can and do, work hard at keeping everything clean. This includes boiling utensils weekly. Using a bleach solution when cleaning the furniture. Daily inspection of refrigerated products.
Yep, it is good food when you put it in your mouth and it tastes good, is nicely presented and staff are friendly. when finished eating and you say to your partner how much you enjoyed it, you know you have won. No need for me to graduate from Le Cordon Blue for that one!!!
Mafiosos is a nice addition to town. Great service and good prices. Enjoyed a spicy beef meal with rice and will return for sure.
Food and restaurants have improved greatly over the years in Dumaguete. Most establishments here are either fast food or local fare. The main problem here appears to be the lack of quality ingredients. Also, the employment regime here does not encourage people to do more than they have to. There are some decent restaurants here which are good value for money, but If you are looking for a restaurant that is first class, you will be out of luck, as there isn't the demand to pay high prices for quality.
For here, I believe there are a few first class restaurants, at least ones that stand above the others and although expensive for here are a nice special occasion dinner. I would include Casablanca, Atmosphere Resort, and Salaya Resort in that category. Next step down might be Hay Hay, KRI, and for the price Moon Cafe. Just my opinion given we are not in Hong Kong, Los Angeles or London.
I always worry about the water that is used in the soups. I don't know the source. Also, I do worry about ice in drinks. I try to eat in restaurants that have many customers.
La Bella has wonderful pizza, thin crispy crust and sauce has a nice spice and flavor. Will try some other dishes next visit.
