Brian mate, Wherever you go you will get family problem via FB, the Phone or a Visit but somehow I feel You are missing a Point, family problems are one thing Arrogant and out of hand Foreigners are another. If any of us could actually get over the Clanship and Face thing of the Local be it Family or Friends etc; we might stand a chance of getting somewhere. It is my belief honestly, that the problems you and so many others may endure (I get it too) are a reason that we (The foreigner) just give up on a situation and go and get pissed then Stories like this appear. The One thing to remember is You are not on your own when it comes to the Local and the Face, Pride thing but it is how we manage the aftermath that matters, That can be where the Problem Starts

    JMHO:bag:

Would it be true if it cost him a fortune (obvious exaggeration) and he got reimbursed by his insurance? Are you sure his insurance paid for everything and he did not have to pay out of pocket for a thing? Would it have cost another person less for the same treatment if they did not have excellent insurance? Is it even our business whether he paid or his insurance paid? The fact is, the treatment cost was in the 7 figure range (pesos).

I can only speak for my self, I have no problem pay 500 peso, that's what an ambulance cost, if a person need that. Of course, I understand not many people are willing to pay a hospital bill to a stranger, but for a friend, always. Where I come from, if you just pass by an accident where people need help, with out doing anything, you will get punished, maybe go to jail.

I Philippines you think call to 911 will help you with persons who have knowledge to handle all that kind of situations ? Come on that f**king naiv, even first aid the driver of ambulance have any knowledge about. Yes, I had that experience in person. Don't help anyone, stay safe, think at your self

This was what I was trying to say. Thank you for explaining it well. In Japan, it is unlawful to take a patient in an emergency situation to the hospital yourself. Call 911 or in Japan's case 119 even if you think it's faster for you to drive the patient to the nearest hospital than calling for an ambulance.

Couldn't agree more. Not allowing criticism because it might hurt some feelings at the receiving end is wrong on so many levels. How can anything get better if pointing out mistakes (by actually talking to each other) is off limits?
