Short answer is yes we do
Lets be honest and admit it....What do you take for granted?
The story told of a man who was asked, what's the first thing you do when you wake up?
He replied, I stick my elbows out in both directions!
Why would you do that he was asked......To make sure I'm not in my coffin!!!
Well that might be taking things to extreme...... but just think of the things you take for granted.

I think, as younger people we all took things for granted and, as Crystalhead says, we learned through experience.
So here's some food for thought:- When I was born there were about 2.9 billion people on the planet of which only just over 30% lived in urban areas. Many of us, being service vets, spent our most productive years in uniform, doing stuff we were told to do and, in our spare time, propagating our seed among other activities. Now, 60+ years later there are nearly 8 billion people on the same planet of which nearly 60% are urbanised.
In my opinion we've all taken the planet for granted and our offspring are going to cop the consequences.
There are around 160 babies born every minute - 24/7/365. So to produce that many babies continuously there must be hundreds of couples banging away without a care in the world........I guess they must be evenly distributed or the earth would wobble. (You see! - there could be some truth in the post coital question "did the earth move for you dear?")
Anyway, we're all having/had a great time so, without getting too serious about it I reckon it's about time to put something back. Simple things like - if you have some space, don't buy it - grow it yourself. Eat an oligarch (or did I mean Aardvark? - Either way - one of them is protected).
Just some food for thought!- Like x 3

I think in general westerners take a lot for granted.
When you travel a lot to places like the Philippines, you soon change.- Agree x 3

It's interesting that there are three times as many overweight/obese people in the world as there are under-nourished. Says a lot about human nature when we cannot/will not sort that one out.

Becoming a Senior (60 and above) most would have learned to take nothing for granted. We did the time in so to say. Learned that freedom, loved ones, the ability to travel, value of a dollar, trying to make a healthy choice or weigh each decision over each thing life throws at us..... comes easier by taking nothing for granted.
As a Younger Man I did indeed take freedom, my Parents love and access to nature and environment, friends and Siblings for granted. Still managed to scrape on by 6 decades without any significant regret.- Like x 3
