I just noticed that my Texas diver's license expired earlier this year and I won't be able to get another license until a couple weeks after I arrive in the US (my first couple weeks will be in Indiana). I could get an Indiana license but I don't want to do so for tax purposes (screw Indiana and their income tax!)...I need to renew in Texas to show residence there. So....can I drive in the US with my valid Philippine license? I've looked around but it seems I am in a gray area. United States Guide: Driving Licence, Recognition of foreign licenses and US licenses: The minimum age you Hmm.....define "tourists". I'm technically not one of those...but I kinda am. Depends how they want to interpret that. BMV: New Indiana Residents I have a feeling that if I got pulled over (that hasn't happened in over 10 years) a cop is going to look at me like I'm stupid but might let it slide with a warning.....or he might arrest me and impound my truck. I think it's about 50/50. So there's that.....no what if I had an accident. lol Would my insurance company cover me? Ha, my bet: sh*t no they wouldn't! Anyone every tried driving on a Philippine license in the US?
Problem solved. I've been living in 3rd world countries for too long. You can renew a license online these days in the US. Thanks to my mom for filling me in on that and to my little sis for letting me borrow a Texas address. Would be awesome if the LTO could figure this one out! Can only dream....maybe in another 50 years they will have something similar.
I went back to the US once with only a valid Philippines' license and the rental car company in MI accepted it
I have rented cars in California twice with only my Philippine driver's license. No problem either time.
It is always a good idea to get an International license; normally last longer than a US license and work in most countries. Shawn
