I know what you mean Fritz, but furriner meant something different. He meant Filipinos have a this sentiment, not that foreigners are behaving badly (it might stem from behaving, but I think that was not his reason stating it). Recent statement at high level surely did not help, but nowadays politicians are not always thinking before talking.

Also, I disagree with your generalized statement that most are from a particular country, taking in consideration that you have meant a few foreigners and not "a lot of foreigners" (do not want to come across as a "smart @ss", as such mistakes happen to me a as well - I hope I interpreted your comment correctly).
I am not from the biggest nation, but I had generally good experience with most foreigners. I noted some bad behavior from foreigners from another Asian country, but to generalize it would be going to far.

(Funny and clever function of the forum: It changes automatically my "smart a.....ss" to "smart bottom")

I need to make better use of the operator :sarcasm:..Racism in Dumaguete. Sure, big problem :sarcasm: For that, and your anxieties about US economic and military capability, suggest you start separate threads.

To each their own I suppose. A lot of us that moved here before all this change don't care for it much as we enjoyed the smaller town feel. I understand it is, generally, good for the local population, but we have very different needs and desires. I have been looking for a new place to hang my boots for quite some time now, it's only a matter of time before that happens. (I've just expanded my search into Europe, currently in Budapest. Georgia and Ukraine are other future spots for me to check out...though I would need to brush up on my Ruskies, and by brush up I mean learn my first word. But such would be life anywhere outside of the English speaking world if I wanted to live even a remotely inexpensive life.)

Agree 100%. I'm not fond of China as a nation.

Then I recommend Spain, it is a little bit more expensive than the places you quoted. However, not by much and you have a full "western" lifestyle with relaxed atmosphere. If you choose the Canary Island you will get the best climate in the world on top (and it is cheap)....English is well understood and Spanish is easy (Hungarian is a nightmare language, very difficult)

I stumbled across dumaguete 8 years ago. I believed at that time it was the best place to retire. So if ur just new to duma i can understand why u love it. The main differences i see between now and then. cost of certain (market items). traffic and congestion. This is because of the influx of Filipino visitors long and short term.

I'm pretty sure Western Europe is going to be way out of my price range.

I move to Dumaguete area from Panglao 3 years ago, because of its changes from relaxed small island to overcrowded place with too many tourists and prices go up and up, short time tourist doesn't care and don't know about price level. My main reason to move here was not Dumaguete city, even its not that bad. I move here because of the surroundings, many great places to visit. I go around on my bike and are open mined to move if I find a place/area which I feel have more to offer. Last time I was in Canlaon and take east coast of Negros out and west coast home, several cities, and towns but no one I will change for Dumaguete area. I will go Panay island and visit Iloilo city and look around in that area. I don't expect anything maybe because all in all, I'm happy where I am, and do the trip for pleasure. In the future, I think about move to South Europe, Croatia and Portugal are on top of my list. I like Spain too, "visit" there 18 months but that some years ago and know prices go up, think same in Croatia but I really like it there, very beautiful nature, beach, and mountains. Cities like Split and Dubrovnik have it all imho

I’ve heard Croatia is nice as well. My concern would be, compared to what we have here, the women might be 6 1/2 feet tall, 220 pounds, with lots of hair under their arms and ...
