Yeah, sounds like Duma is probably one of the wealthiest place in the world----they certainly have more $$ than Europe and N. America according to some of you, right? Unfortunately no visitors will ever know that when they visit, look (and smell) this town. If this is what wealth is about, I rather live in poverty.
I imagine most of us foreigners living here are here because we are not wealthy so can not afford San Diego or south of France or the Gold Coast when retired. Given the alternatives, from what I have seen in other countries and considering the English language capabilities here, Dumaguete is quite livable, IMHO. Living poor but happy.
Compared to President Aquino his salary (60,000 pesos a month), most foreigners have no reason to complain. Only the "extra benefits"are a "little" below Filippino average.
The same here, what do we need all this distractions, this expensive Branded Stuff, all the fancy Foodstuff, there used to be a time when most People lived on just a handful of different Foods and they actually were healthier and stronger than People today...
