    That's probably the thing that scares me the most about him. I really hope that most Filipino don't think and speak the same way as him. I actually thought average Filipinos were much better people than what he has proven to be.

    Is there a word for "senile old man with diarrhea of the mouth"? That might be more fitting.

    I got the middle class info from this article.

    How big is the middle class? Is it benefiting from economic growth?

    Maybe it's complete BS. Middle class is a sort of made up thing anyways, but I believe it's generally relative to the rest of the country. A high level government worker does pretty well on a relative scale even if the pay is crap. For **** sure it's not based on U.S. wages. We're talking about the Philippines. Did you have your coffee this morning?

    How is that coffee doing? He's close if not past his expiration date expectancy. With a half a big USD in the kitty, he could live at the level of the official salary of his position for like another 15 years.

    I don't think his politics are good for anyone, but I was referring to the election, which was before he killed thousands (as opposed to killing off a lot fewer in Davao). You don't get elected by telling the poor to **** off. I guess everyone who wants to be president has to at least give a hat-tip to the poor, but the original comment was "looking down on" the poor.

    Or something.

    Speaking of coffee. :P

    If I remember correctly his father was also the Mayor, or maybe the Governor, or maybe both. Just like his kids are following him.

    Looks like his salary as mayor would be about P27k per month.

    Just above the poverty level.

    So if he saved up his $560/month salary for his nearly 23 years as mayor (and not spent a peso on living expenses, which.....:meh:) he would have been able to save up......$155k USD. Interest rates must be amazing in Davao, he is a stock market genius or he was a very busy guy working a very lucrative second job (that I'm sure had no conflict of interest with his position as mayor!). :rolleyes:

    I don't know if his presidency has anything to do with the U.S. Dollar to the peso going 50+ but if it does then cheers to him!

    Don't thank him too quickly. A weaker peso will almost certainly mean higher local prices due to inflation. It will most likely even out or have a negative gain.

    Rule #1 of running a country. Empathize with the people and tell them what they want to hear, most will not even check to see if what you say is true.

    Getting back on subject, a very interesting article on how popularity is measured in the Philippines and a comparison to other presidents. Estrada who was imprisoned had a rating of 69 and is now the mayor of Manila. Go figure.......
    Essentially the article says that Duterte's rating is not so different from past presidents and goes into how popularity is measured.
