Promoted almost exclusively through the natural oddity of its Chocolate Hills and the adorable wide-eyed tarsiers, and although these in itself are enough to stretch anybody's wonder and excitement, both the famous hills and the diminutive primate endemic to Bohol are but delicious appetizers of what promises to be a seemingly endless smorgasbord of luscious natural and historical feasts. Its pristine white beaches are slowly clawing their way up the list of the most discriminating beach connoisseurs. Prime example is Alona Beach. Located in Panglao Island and a short boat trip from the main province, it rivals the famous Boracay. Continue reading...
We took a short break there a couple of times and enjoyed our trips, second time we rented a bike as was far cheaper. Stayed on pangalo for a couple of nights, expensive but good night life and food. We then moved up into the mountains to nuts huts which also had good food and atmosphere. The worst thing was all the touts after you get off the ferry,it was a nightmare, we just found a local trike who took us to a bike rental place, the ferry ride was great though, nice views looking back at the islands, plenty of dolphins and flying fish.
Alona beach is certainly lovely and the center of tourist activities on Panglao; however, there are many beaches just as nice and UNCROWDED compared to Alona. I lived near Doljo Beach on Panglao for a year in total and it was always beautiful, white, but unfortunately a bit trashy at the high water mark, as most of the Panglao beaches are. To locate Doljo, google Bellavista Hotel, a new 300 room hotel on Doljo. Additionally, on Bohol proper, check out Anda Peninsula, just north of Jagna.
That's where my wife's from Jagna, yes been to Anda and it's lovely white sandy Beach. There's some beach resorts there too, same price and high end as Panglao. Much cleaner and quieter too.
I spent a week in April on Panglao Island and really enjoyed Alona Beach (mentioned in the article.) Also mentioned, the Bohol Bee Farm (a full resort also on Panglao Island) is a wonderland of delicious natural cuisine and comfortable accommodations. And the Bee Farm serves its menu at the Buzz Cafe on Alona Beach. They recently started making all natural ice cream in native flavors and it is AWESOME!
