I saw that and wondered what had happened. So a motorcyclist on the highway with no lights was splattered by a lady that was subsequently ejected from her vehicle because she was not wearing a seat belt? Sounds like Darwin had a big night.

I had a peek inside and was curious how the vehicle handled the chop chop conversion after the crunch, I noticed that there were no bolts at all in the bracket that supports the steering wheel / shaft assy. Maybe they were sheared off which would mean the bolts used were too small or just were not there, but I ask myself how was it attached to the dash???? Most times it is attached to the pedal assy. Or to a cross brace.

Some of these posts make me remember what a member of the elite Filipino society told me once.

    1. Make sure you always have the correct documents with you at all times...Passport/ACR Card, D/L/ Ins. papers.

    2. NEVER admit fault or have any conversation concerning fault with anyone unless your attorney is present. Never pay for anything at the scene of an accident or make any promises to pay for anything at a later date.

    3. Refer police, and other parties to your attorney or your insurance company (preferably both). In a society that you have NO RIGHTS, let your attorney do ALL the talking for you.

    4. Find the most prominent attorney in the area that you live. Schedule an appointment with them. At that appointment, give them 20,000 PHP for retainer. Contact them periodically to make sure that you use up the retainer. (An attorney can only charge 300 PHP per hour). In your meeting with them, try to find out about wives, children, health of family so that you have topics of concern to talk with them about. As they see that you are a continuing client and a friend, they will protect you. Keep their number on speed dial.

Yes Alex, replacing your PP can be a major PIA. However, the underlying message is to make sure you are not violating any laws, you do not admit to being at fault for anything, and to have a good attorney on retainer.

Your idea (and it is a good one based on the replacement = PIA theory) is illegal. ALL foreign countries require foreign visitors to have their PP on their person at all times. Carrying a copy is not sufficient no matter how many times you have gotten away with it. The ACR-I card is not supposed to carried in lieu of your PP. You are supposed to have both.

Not having the required identification on you gives the police all the reason they need to detain you for as long as it takes to identify you. Not to mention, there is pretty heavy fine to pay if they wish to make you pay it.

We all know that pretty much everything in the Phils is negotiable, however...will it be "negotiated" in your favor? The suggestions were given to me by an elite member of society (also a Senator) to let me know how to conduct myself and to take steps to ensure that whatever trouble I find myself in, that I know I have complied with every law and that I have representative council to navigate the gray areas for me. YMMV and you are free to do as you please...myself, I intend to follow these suggestions to the letter.

One other suggestion I might give is to have your blood type written inside your PP on the emergency contact page. If you only carry an ACR card, then have your blood type affixed to it by some sort of sticker.

As a lifelong racer, I also have my blood type on the back of my helmet at the bottom next to the neck pad. That is the least likely place on the helmet to sustain damage.

One might think I am paranoid, but not true. The truth is that I am just lazy and I have learned that the easiest way to get through life is to avoid trouble by being overly prepared for it and to make it as easy as possible for those that are trying to help me when I cannot help myself.
