Greetings all. Doing business is not easy as one two three You have to fine the right person for the job as for me I don't care about people attutude I will served them to the best of my ability after serving them you will see change. The next thing we all need to look at is ourself to others I have many people come to true love cafe with attutude but after serving them and get them in a good mood everything change. What better than some Raggae music and a hot boil of soup We have to change our attutude too toward others it don't matter is it a waitress or cleaner Love and respect goes a far way .

I decided a long time ago that I would rather see a fake a$$ smile and here "Have A Nice Day" when I know they don't mean it than see a scowl and hear "What the fxxx do you want" when the DO mean it.

People regularly pay $20k+ to get married in the West (aka reserving a spot in a line that gives you a 50/50 chance to give half your crap away to a person you probably really don't even like)......I think people looking to get married should be forced to go to this type of restaurant before they tie the knot to see if marriage is actually something they would like.

Joking aside, the service I got at Dicks was very good (minus the attitude) and the food was excellent. If I had a choice between a smile and crappy service (usually what you get in the Philippines) or insults and excellent service I'd pick the latter every single time. I'm not going to restaurants to make friends or have someone smile at me, I'm going there because I'm lazy and don't feel like cooking for myself and I want that food to be served as fast and efficiently as possible. As long as you can provide that I don't care if you hate me , hate your job or if you call me names while providing that service.....I'm paying for the service and food, not a good attitude from a person I don't know and give two sh*ts about. (I actually find that "bubbly" attitude many servers in the US have very annoying. Makes me want to smack that fake smile right off their faces.)

    I don't know.
I am just going to be blunt because I have read some of these post and it seems like people want to treat these waitresses like delicate flowers. Like they are children. You shouldn't say anything to them that would hurt their feelings or they will end up like that girl from SM MegaMall on Feb 14th when her date didn't show up. I find that "Loosing Face" crap is ridiculous. They are adults. They should start acting like it.

That being said. Another excuse people are saying is that the waitress do not making much money. That is true. They make peanuts. Well, so do the waitresses in the United States (I use the US as an example, because that is where I am from. I am sorry if I can't use other countries) They have to get tips to make up for the wage lost and whatever they get over that is what they keep and guess what. They have to file that money at the end of the year as earned income for their taxes. If they even tell Uncle Sam about it.

You also have to understand that the United States is a hell of a lot more expensive to live and breath than Dumaguete. So, everyone has to take all that into consideration.

Now to the pork and beans. The girls here in Dumaguete. The girls here that work at these Foreign restaurants chose to work at these particular restaurants that lots of expats come to. They should know right off hand that we have different culture and different expectations. When a Filipino or Filipina comes to our country such as the USA. Do we ask them to forcefully follow any and all western culture and leave behind their Filipino Customs. It is highly double standards here. They expect us to always follow their customs, but when they come to our country that we accept theirs no questions asked. All we ask is they do the same for us.

Anyways, lets get back to the duties of a waitress. I have been going to WhyNot? plenty of times. Majority of the time I will order their service water and I always ask for a straw. No matter how many times I go there I always ask for a straw because I just don't trust the glasses. Just me. They always forget because they think they have this fantastic memory. It just always happen!! I base my tipping just on that alone. It is because I know that they are not listening to me and they are always interrupting me when I am talking too. This is a big thing too. When I am ordering the appetizers and main course, about half way through ordering. They will interrupt me and then run off from the table when I am not even finish. Where do they learn to do things like that? Anyways, No matter how much they screw up later on. I always give my waitress a good tip if she can successfully bring me a straw (strange right), but if I have to continue to ask for the straw over and over. There is no tip. It happens every single time to the point where I actually have to bring my own now.

I believe that a good waitress should write it down on a piece of paper. Like others have said. If they will order eggs. Ask if they want scrambled, over easy, sunny side. Always right it down. That way they can't **** it up. Americans love it when you don't screw it up and it is an automatic 15% - 20% of the bill maybe even more with a cute smile.

If waitresses want money then they should start acting the part and using those heads of theirs and coming up with ideas on "hmmm, what kinds of these can I do for my customers that will get me tips?" ahh I know... Pay Attention! Bring out the appetizers before the main course! Bring out the food HOT!

The owners needs to school the waitress because the waitresses affect the business. Sure, the business is doing okay now, but it can do better if the waitresses do better. If the waitresses do better, the business does better, brings in more customers, that means more money, and more tips. What do you know? Problem solved!

There was one time in Haya Haya. (I think that is what its called) I ordered Lumpia. 40min later because anyone who has ever eaten there knows why. Food came out cold. My lumpia never came out. I asked the waiter where is the lumpia. He goes to the kitchen, comes out 10 min later and says to me that the cook says there are none left. I asked him. Don't you think that could have helped me at the beginning of the order? Now everyone has their meal and I have nothing? Things like that and they will expect a tip because I am the foreigner and I was paying because I was out with all locals around me. Grinds my gears. Common Sense. That is all that it takes.

Well you got some other peoples opinions. What is wrong with that?

If you read all the comments you will find on the other thread there are some that can be very helpful in enjoying and understanding the Philippines.
The Dude explained how he gets along, singing to the waitress etc. That post is pure gold if you want to be happy.
Someone else mentioned this is not a multicultural country, that's a good thing to remember.

I am very much Convinced it is a Customer Attitude on Arrival thing to begin with.
Human nature is what it is, If any Staff, Local or not, pick up on an "Attitude" an Attitude will Follow, Bin there and got a "T" shirt from Owning and Running 2 pubs (Bars) and Managing 3 Hotels.

No I did not, I stated that providing good service is not something important in Filipino culture. If it was important, such as family is, you would see them doing a much better job at it. Just as you cannot accept sh*t service because you come from a culture that demands it (and I think this since d*mn near every one of your posts here rags on the service, or lack there of, in local restaurants), it is very hard for them to provide good service because they don't come from a culture that demands it.
And if you were a Filipino feeling insulted I would ask you if you needed a tissue. I'd bet that most Filipino have a little higher reading comprehension skills and wouldn't take my words out of context.
Of course they can, but most restaurants in Dumaguete have Filipino customers. Their business model (and culture) is not catered/centered around you or other expats. (Even when a business is expat owned and customers are primarily expats the employees are almost always Filipinos. Hoping to nag or train their culture out of them is futile.
That seems to be what you are forgetting. Locals largely don't give a crap about it. If most Filipino actually did then businesses would be providing much better service. (You are the one coming off sounding insulting to Filipinos. You think that most business owners are too stupid to train their employees to meet customer's demands?)

But it really doesn't matter to me if you take any of the advice I put out there though; I usually get decent service most places that I go. I'll keep doing what I do, you are obviously going to keep on going about it your way........and I'll continue to not give a crap about the type of service you seem to get everywhere you go and I'll continue to take your complaints about bad service with a grain of salt.
