How very apt you should raise this now Pat my Friend. This was the main reason that I got married so late to Azon. My Father Died in 2001 but my mother continued until 2007. I was living in Spain at the time and found the 3 monthly Trip to the UK. Time Consuming and Costly and inevitably had an adverse effect on my own health, I am one of 9 and we all took it in turn of 3 at a time to care for her in the Time she had left. So every 3 months off I went Home to do my Bit. I know that it would have been almost an impossibility to do this from here so we put off our Future in respect to her. Mum's are Mum's and you only ever get one. So yes it is so very important that we do what we can. Paying for additional Nursing help was not an Option [well not to me] we had a full time Nurse but did most things ourselves, I am right in the Middle 4 older 4 Younger and always felt I had a Stronger bond with her. I was always too old for the Youngers and to young for the Olders
So I tended to be the Stay at Home one. I Could /Would never have Forgiven myself if I had not been able to get there when the Time came.

The Article says it all and if we have (And i am sure we do) have members with 1 or Both parents alive still it can be a 'Dilema' for sure.
Azon was in full agreement with my decision and now I treat her mother with the same gratitude, love and affection, that I can now longer show to my own Mother.

I just hope that our kids think and look after us as we tried with our Parents. I know that our Filipino families have maybe a little better understanding of their old's but times Change.

JP ( said with some tears in his eyes.)

My mother will be 95 in March. When I was working I paid for her managed care home, now my sister's are and her social security covers most. I would sign up for 95 in a minute, if I could. My dad died at age 55 so the average of the two points to 75 for me.
