A lot of that might have to do with the excessive and year round sun exposure you get in the Philippines. Certainly not good for aging. Which is why, to keep my boyishly good looks, I only venture out at night. (and my good looks certainly are a well-known fact within the scientific community. The Why Not Expat Financial Research Committee has studied and discussed this subject in great detail.)

Personally, I'm not too concerned about it. I'd rather die young living somewhere I love being than living a long miserable life living, and working, in a country I'm not overly fond of.

I think you have hit the nail on the head here...and many others have written similarly throughout history indicating the same.

Hey Wyre do you use an umbrella those times when you must subject your renound good looks to the daylight sun?
Hehe...not that there's anything wrong with that...

Interestingly many Filipinas perfer to go swimming at night because they do not want to be exposed to the sun. Also being "white" here is a desired skin tone... now in Southern California, being "dark"is the desired skin tone.

Many expats have a lighter color skin color in the Philippines around their mouth which is caused by the constant shading of the San Miguel Bottle pressed up against their lips during the daylight hours.

Hahaha...nice pic. That is really you isn't it? Lol...

Dave thats an interesting fact I have noticed as well. Many white men go there looking for a brown skinned girl and some here are trying to become white, go figure hahaha...
I never noticed night swimming. I just thought most of the ladies here can't swim at all...

You have to adjust to "Filipino logic". When you are living in a country with 7,107 islands, all surrounded by water, there is absolutely no need to learn how to swim even if a tidal wave from an earthquake could come and knock you off your front porch, or off your water bed.. You have to look at the positive side in everything ... it gives you a chance to take them to the Bambulo Resort Pool at night for a swimming lesson, remember they do not want to get darker so they want to swim at night.... take them into the romantic grotto for a personal swimming lesson. They may not learn how to swim but you WILL have a good time trying to teach them.

Other examples of Filipino logic is there is no need to be at the appointment on time or even day of an appointment because they are never in a hurry. Until the locals must demonstrate the value of their time over your time by cutting in line in front of you at Jollibee so they can save 10 seconds of their own time. Saving those second is necessary to make up for their own lack of planning which is apparent when it takes them 45 seconds to answer the simple question from the Jollibee hostess "What would you like to eat?" The hostess will then be confronted with the famous Filipino "blank stare" used when embarraseed and trying to become invisible.
Someone will cut in front of you in line at Jollibee if you as much as glance at your phone, start a conversation with someone else, or the sure sign you really want them to cut in front of you and delay your eating experience.. . glancing at a newspaper in front of your eyes for a moment.

Yes that is a real picture of me and Imp. Imp is almost as infamous as I am here in Combado Barangay , Bacong.  Everyone knows him and his half brother, Uggy in the Barangay. Just get to the Combado Barangay and ask to see the owner of the Persian cats that look like dogs and you will meet me.

Imp has a little business going, training the neighborhood dogs for their owners. In one photo he is demonstrating how to make your dog stay seated down, using only eye contact command of fear, no use of paws or violence in his dog obedience classes (notice the dog will not even "eye ball" Imp during a training session)... afterword he takes a rest with Uggy, while practicing his "disciplinarian eye stare" that he uses so effectively on the neighborhood dogs...
Imp is the ALPHA cat in the neighborhood; just ask the dogs.

I do the same thing. If you are not as dedicated to the line as I am the next time you face forward you will be staring at the back of my head. I see no problem with line ninjas.

"someone will cut in front of you when standing in line" -

yeah, no kidding, it happens all the time. The other day I was in the bank, talking to the local manager and arranging some transactions, and this HUGE Filipino male came right up alongside me, almost nudging me out ot the way, and asked a question of the Manager, and as usual the Manager, as they all do, started to attend to this jerks question, that is, until I said to the jerk "excuse me, but please wait your turn" - at which time the jerk said, but I only wanted to - and then I said, it is totally immaterial what you wanted to do young man, just wait your turn and stop being so rude and impolite, can't you see the Manager is busy with a customer. Well, at that you should have seen the ugly face on the guy, he started to seethe, and billow fumes out of his nose, ha ha ha ha ha, :biggrin:and I though I was going to receive a one punch knock out blow, pacman style...........I could feel the animosity oozing from him, but he eventually calmed down, and moved over to another counter to push in on some other customer I expect............I just can't handle people that do that......:blackeye:.....and will not tolerate it either here in Phil or in Oz. But it rarely happens in Oz, and frequently occurs in Phil unfortunately..........:frown:

I hate getting cut in front of. It's rude and inconsiderate and I don't do it to others, even if they are, ahh, less dedicated. It may sound really odd but I still subscribe to decency and manners while I am out in the world. Anyone cuts in front of me and remains will have earned it. I may have to adjust my temperment a bit when I finally move there Lol....

Dave, all this time I thought Imp was short for, "Impradolene" or something.....your asawa! hahaha...
Thanks for the run down on Filipno logic. I have to admit I have only had a small taste of it thus far. Bambulo is a great place. My good friend lived down the road from there until recently. I would love to give some swimming lessons there
