    As opposed to being a big juicy target for the old fart homes back in the West. They steal more from the elderly and their families than any petty criminal could every possibly make away with. Hiring nurses and guards is going to be much cheaper than letting those criminals in the West "take care" of your elderly parents.

    No mistake, I think it is a great thread, examining the pros and cons of bringing aging parents to retire in the Philippines. I have asked my mother to come here and I would help her in her octagenarian years but she doesn't like the Philippines as a place to live.

    I think it could be done with a decent standard of living at a better cost than other parts of the world. It's not for everyone though. One big concern would be protection. Octagenarian, foreign retirees would be seen as a juicy target for criminals.

    1. The article says 374 are registered with the PRA to live in Dumaguete. It goes on to say from January to August this year, 8,605 had applied for visa extensions. That would be those of us on tourist visas. There is no mention of those on a 13a.
    2. There are some quiet areas, especially if you don't go anywhere and just stay home.
    3. I find food is reasonable here, price wise. Again, if they don't go anywhere and have a helper to cook and clean then it's reasonable. Even more so when compared to the cost of a retirement home in the USA,
    4. Fast Internet? Some here say that is possible. I think its a case of fast Internet being available for anyone who wants to spend US$100 a month.
