Perhaps the essential equipment IS there for life-threatening conditions and the best staff are employed in those units. Also, there has been a posting on DI about birth there and it was very positive - I think it is a newer section of the hospital.
Nothing anyone else says can contradict your positive experiences there but I think it depends very much on the type of medical condition and, for more general problems, the doctor the patient selected.

Was admitted in Silliman 3 days with dengue (after being sick for a week at home), no private rooms available so nice and cozy in the e.r. for 3 days...
yes they like to keep you longer so just stress that you are checking out when you want to leave.
Just wanted to inform, Philhealth took care of 15.000php of the 16.500php bill. We paid 500php for the Hospital and 1000php for the dr.
Only strange thing on the bill was the 4000php for the 2 times I saw the dr... But we where so surprised with the minimal bill so never mind.
And yes, Philhealth accept everybody.-

You can leave any hospital at any time, regardless of whether you have paid. They will tell you otherwise, but the law is on the patient's side. When I decided to leave Holy Child, there was nobody available to accept payment. (Not sure why.) They told me I'd have to wait. I told them I'd come back to pay. They said it was against their policy for patients to leave without paying. I said it was against my policy to wait to pay. Then I left. I was all smiles and politeness. They weren't smiling but they were polite. Went back the next day and paid. No problem.

It is good to hear that, but for more serious health problems, it is more advisable to go to Cebu because it comes out cheaper there.
