    Consider Experience

When Negros Oriental Gov. Macias, a close ally of the Cojuangco family was in a desperate situation, they scrambled one of their jets from Luzon to come pick him up and deliver him to Manila for care there. I think their bypass of NegOr medical care is notable.

My 11 yr old son broke his leg in Siquijor a year ago. An ambulance met us at the Dumaguete pier, they carefully brought him out of the fast ferry on a stretcher. He was in the ER for just an hour or two before being admitted, he had a very comfortable, modern private room and we were there for about a week. There was a couch I slept on, the room was clean, with ac and cable tv, much like a modern hotel room. The nurses and all the various services were like clockwork. I did spend a fair amount of time making cash payments for various itemized charges which was tedious and took a tricycle daily to ATM alley, sometimes drawing from several accounts. Considering the fact that this was in basically a third world country it was a good level of care. The staff was a bit unprofessional in a bed transfer once and the screws fixing the implant to the femur were obviously too long as visible on the xray but the surgeon assured me it would not be a problem, and explained the improper length of the screws with a "this is the Philippines" explanation, which I took to mean, he did not have the proper length screws in stock at the time of the surgery. The total amount charged all in was a pittance, compared to similar care in the U.S., or I would imagine many other countries.

Ya lucky when I was younger I had to keep my first aid and cpr card current for several years. I only did cpr 2 times, the other one was around 4 months earlier when a 3 year old little girl was found on the bottom of a friends pool, once again the training paid off and she is a healthy little girl now. I wish the schools would include first aid and cpr in their required classes.

Well its all about money and always has been. If your a worker in any field if your pay is crap your work is crap. If your pay is good your work is good. Hospitals aren't in it to give free care or to save lives even if that would be a noble idea, they are in it to make a profit. With that said you don't make a profit saving lives or helping those who can't afford the care given and in the end you simply end up having to raise costs on those who can afford it to pay for all that free care (look at the US for an example).

But it seems here if you have the money yah check yourself into a higher standard hospital like Silliman Medical Center and you'll get better treatment then in most hospitals here. Still they will be limited as they are often more unexperienced with serious issues that usually go untreated as people don't have the money to pay for it usually.

I'd say honestly if you have major medical issues you shouldn't be living in the Philippines as the medical care here is 2nd rate at best. But at least we can afford that 2nd rate care here vs the unaffordable first rate care in the US.

It's not only about money, but work ethic and attitude!

That is about money. Pay your employee's a crap salary and they really don't a d*mn about the job and will do a bare minimum. If your getting minimum wage you won't really care about your work ethic or your attitude, but if its a very nice salary you'll care a lot more and appreciate your job a lot more. As it goes the hospital rakes in a fortune, the doctors get a tiny bit but not much, and the workers get crap wages.

Prime example is look at McDonalds argueably one of the best non high skilled jobs. The offer a higher wage then most, pay SSS and Philhealth for employee's, have days off and even tuition assistance for their employee's among other benefits. But look at the employee's attitude and work ethic at McDonalds, they do try hard and tend to have a much better then average attitude. Just sad that the job in the US we consider laughable is here in the Philippines one of the best for not someone in one of the few high end professions.
