It seems to me that the best if you need urgent care you better be able to show payment ability IMMEDIATELY. I think a combination of a PhilHealth card and a Caritas card is a good plan for me. I will pay a few thousand pesos each month for pease of mind.

    Doromaner (Mr. David),

Are you living alone? Or you're with a Filipina gf or wife?
If you are alone then that would be scary especially if you are in a condition where you don't know when things will go wrong. (like heart attacks, high blood attacks, etc).
I had first hand experience being in Silliman Hospital, but since i am a student there, they were kind to me and "cared" for me, i say. BUT the thing to get there and get help, you really have to work yourself out and not really completely JUST rely on the nurses or caregivers.
I just had check-ups about my ulcer and GI bleeding, so those were just what i undergone. But basing on your posts, i think you are in a much more "scary" and grave situation.
Well, if Silliman Hospital doesn't really fits you well then you can be at Cebu or Manila, but i really do wish you God bless for the living environment there. Gosh, personally, they are not conducive for living! I can't imagine myself living in Cebu/Manila! (i'm referring to the cities and downtown area).

Anyway, if you consider here having "poor care" services compared to U.S (which is very obvious) then why not live in U.S? (maybe because it's so expensive there) but atleast you have personal satisfaction of having a better/best "care" service.

Bless you more healthy seasons Mr. David.

David, there are bound to be good stories out there but arent posted here as members here arent a good sampling of the general populace that would have treatments at the local hospitals. Expectations are subjective. True, the level of local care cant be compared to those in developed countries, such as the US, UK, Australia, NZ, Singapore, Japan to name a few. But developed countries also have their share of bad treatments - remember the person that collapsed in a NY(?) hospital waiting room and nobody bothered to help - these are the exceptions, though.

For most locals, expectations are met and they'd live to tell if they were members of this forum :D

Cebu/Manila are better options if local care doesnt live up to your expectations.

Not to beat a dead horse here but just mentioning an analogy ..

When staying at a cheap motel, you can't expect the food from room service (if any at all) to be at par with that of what the Sheraton/Shangrila serves. One may be able to afford the food from first rate hotels but find the room rates out of this world. Picking a place to retire/live is akin to picking a hotel, choose one that balances your medical and other needs with the cost and quality of living of the city/town/barrio.

As Yoda would say, "Choose wisely you must".

    Cheers everyone.
