I am not even close to being an electrician but have years of experience with my dad remodling, a few university classes, new construction home/light commercial builder, Beatles tribute band 'sound guy' and recent 100 hours of research on my UPS build. Long way of saying everything I say is opinion and not necessarily industry approved standards.

There are arguments both sides of the 'do I unplug when not in use' issue. My personal strategy is leave it plugged in unless I feel there is imminent threat of lightning strike.

One of my Uncle's daughters is a big environmentalist and always unplugs his TV when she is over (well used to, leaves it alone now). Every Time you plug in any equipment it takes a power surge (think about that little spark you see sometimes when plugging something into the outlet). All those surges built up and blew the capacitors in his (my old) Samsung LED TV. Luckily I was still around and replaced them for about $10 vs the $150+ TV repair places wanted. Electronics are made to deal with power fluctuations, especially a UPS which probably has a circuit breaker and automatic voltage regulator. Unless hit by lighting the changes in line voltage will remain much lower than the spike caused by initially plugging something in.

Yep. Here is a pic of a "polarized" 2 prong plug sold in Walmart in the US for use on a TV. Look closely and notice that the prong on the right has an enlarged end so it won't fit the wrong way into the socket. Obviously the clerk has not purchased a TV in the US that used a polarized 2 prong plug as he knows not what he is saying.

Noise can also be introduced by low quality extension cords and plugging different equipment in out of phase (turn the plugs so the live wire is on the same side of all the equipment).

Even if the 3 pin plug-ins were a common thing to see in the Philippines a ground wire wouldn't be ran 99% of them. That extra wire costs $$ and 99% of Filipino are too kuripot to drop money on something they don't see an immediate benefit from.

Your electronics will be much happier siping AVR power than acting like a drunk drinking out of a glass he either comes up short from or wears it.

Causes are everything from electricians, and people who know electricians tapping onto power lines leading to over burdened transformers etc. Property rights preventing adequate preventative maintenance, and earthquakes a couple provinces over the National Grid is having regional Power Companies send power to (until those local plants are repaired and working again)....

This works until a typhoon or big earthquake comes along and knocks out the electricity for 2 weeks or more. I never saw the need for a generator until just that happened. Trying to find a generator after that typhoon was difficult as I suspect many had thought the same way that I did. Mine has been very useful during the all day brownouts that happen at least once a month since I've purchased it. Might be something to consider.

Except for the one listed at 9,000 that I did not reference, the prices seem reasonable for Manila. Add a couple thousand for shipping and close enough to the Lazada price not to be 'too good to be true'

Ok, thanks. Yup they have the no maintenance car batteries (startup/crank batteries good for short high output like starting an engine but not so much for long slow discharge and should not be drained more than 50% capacity) but for deep cycle they only have the wet/flooded (need to check and add water when required). They suggested going to Cebu for the sealed AGM deep cycle battery I am looking for which is not so good for cranking but is good for long term holding a charge and can be drained to 20% capacity.

I know that is much more of a reply than you needed but wanted to put the information out there as I am learning.
