 Some time last year, I broached the Subject of Face Book, I am NOT a fan at all, I DO have an account for the Grandchildren to converse with the Old Boy. Following on a little with another thread about family problems, Certainly not to complement or distract from it, I would like to ask for some opinions with regard to Face Book.
As parents, I feel it is important to have some knowledge of our children's behaviour. I do not want to interfere with my daughters life in respect of friends and the like. However, I have to Admit, that I do monitor her Face Book account, rightly or wrongly, I care about my 12 year old in this day and age. She is far to young for this type of exposure and I will explain my motives. We had a few problems in the family and out of it all came a wayward 15 year old cousin, Now of late, all I see is bad Bad language on the pages, F... this and F... that. Who wants to sleep with me tonight? I can get Any man I want! Well I for one will not tolerate it, I have spoken to Azon and she was shocked. I know that some out there have kids the same age, has anyone had the same sort of thing happen? Should there be any perverts reading this sort of thing, I will worry a great deal more about the internet safety of my little girl, That's what she is of course, still a little girl. Apple of Daddies eye BUT exposed. I have of course had a few words around the Family. I am not sure what to do next. A little help here, Advice, Suggestions, Support, just something to help me understand WHY this site is allowed to receive accounts from Children so young.

'why that site allowing kids opening account with age so young' - well, they do not but the kids are lying about their age when they open their account. and while an email is required to open one, they do lie about their age too to make an email account.

my daughter herself is into facebook - glad she gave me her login info and mama herself can log into it, and i monitor her account too. and when 'friends' begin to use fowl language i simply do not activate their update notification on her page. so that is always 'safer' not to expose her too much into it. (well, i must admit i deleted one or two of her 'friends')

    SHHHHHH - LOL

Go to account section of that site... have it banned from her friends list those bad influence people around her. and set a privacy options. It would be safer if your kids profile is set to privacy and friends can only view her profile and not the rest of the world. Make sure those people she add on her friends list are really friends/family/relatives and not a stranger, some strangers could be a harm, it could be a hacker or worst kidnappers at the back of a fake profile and photos. Its very hard to trust someone this days specially we're living in a third world country where almost everyone is hungry for money...we can never tell. Be safe....

Minimum age on facebook is 13, what means 18 in the PI  . The solution is easy, no facebook.

Get her registered a own free blog (wordpress.com, blooger, etc) That way she learns to deal with a almost real website, can upload pictures (learns how to edit them too), learns how to write a bit more than a single line, can invite all her friends to see the pictures there and comment on it etc...

That will benefit her in her future and is fun...

My little Monster asked me for facebook and I said No, as soon you are old enough and can handle things responsible you can have it. Done. Rhoody does not discuss about things like that as long he is the donor... (the only reason she could have facebook now is to join my mafia in mafia-wars, hehe)

I installed her her own site. after a rough start, she gets into it and enjoys writing her small diary once a week, appreciating comments, posting her pictures etc. At the beginning she wrote stuff and I uploaded it, now she does all by herself and I just read the stuff when online, sit down with her and explain what to do a bit different or easier. all together she does pretty well for a 10 year old picture-monster...

    cheers

    Rhoody

my son from time to time uses language but hes 16 now so less i can do about it but he tones down because I and his mother and aunts and grandma are on face book with him able to comment directly on his page to let him know hes heard...So if you and other elder relatives are on the site openly then the youngster feels overseen but if that makes no difference then the problem is beyond me...I'm sure my son still @!#%$ but not as openly...The photos that end up on face book include nude beach scenes and no censor ever removes them not to mention more photos gruesome deaths and sexually overt kinds...

Banning nude websites or above 18 sitesare the other way around...on your router list all the sites you want to be banned at the prental guardian section, easier way to do it on Dlink router network or on the simple form can be done on windows program, i can share it with you guys how to do it on email.

    Thank You Friends

:D Thank You all for your answers, We have reset some options, Deleted 175 Friends, that after some chats with my monster, she realises that she didn't even know, just added them. Blocked those we see as a Bad Influence. We have had to put Parental Guidance on the PC (Something we did not feel was needed but Hey Ho) Azon has changed the password for FB so She will open it for the Monster, Monitor the time there, trust is here now, that she will not change it again once she is in. Seems harsh but I did worry. Although Funny Rhoody, your Post was Timely, Woke me up a little. After some counselling at a family meeting, I sat at the end of the table on Screen (SKYPE) Not the best way to attend a family meeting BUT it showed my concern. I guess I have alerted other parents (Family) that a little more care of their children needs to be taken. Of course I will now spend 3 months in the sin Bin. The Foreigner bit will creep in here. Thank You all, for the Ideas and Support.
This is what DI is all about. GREAT!

    Happy Jack P.
