if so, i am leaving with thousands of expats.
as soon as we are allowed to leave. And it is increasingly looking like
Duterte has made a deal with China for financial bailout.
    Beware Chinese bearing gifts.

I cannot ever see postings linked to FB but assume this is the article I read in the media regarding face shields mandatory in malls and other enclosed spaces.

I think I might be the odd-one-out here (not unusual!) when saying I think that is good idea - as long as they are worn over a mask.

    Three reasons:

    1. People are not great at wearing masks correctly - they think dangling it from one ear, wearing it on the chin or uncovering the nose so they can breathe (!) is the proper way. This will give a modicum of additional protection - although I have already spotted the trend of wearing them tilted up above the head! This is usually the 'cool' youth way. And, btw, why do some guards ask customers to remove their masks when taking forehead temperature??? I have been told this may be so the CCTV can capture the face for 'contact tracing' - oh yeah, going through thousands of images and then locating ALL those people (who may have come from miles away) has zero chance.
    2. Few currently wear eye protection and the virus can enter that route.
    3. Most masks are okay (on the 'better than nothing' basis) but are not as effective as they need to be to stop viral transmission - the face shield is another barrier.
    4. Psychological: Making people, especially less intelligent ones, to think maybe this virus pandemic IS serious (the bike barriers made it a joke IMO) and they might be a little bit more careful. Plus, possibly giving some people more confidence to go out and spend.

I welcome the input of anyone who disagrees, although it will not change my opinion that in most countries, a double barrier is going to reduce infections - and I think everyone agrees, the World economies need to crank up again.

Makes it appear that the establishment is still actively combating CV 19. When in reality they have LOST it.

All the Lock Downs and hardship squandered as they allowed all sorts of returning workers to move about with little effective isolation or proper testing.

One good fact though the (declared) number deaths from CV are small, have to treat the sky high infection numbers like mosquito bites.

I feel sorry for those with no work, no food and little hope that it will be over soon. Face shield another window dressing exercise.

You missed out an important point. Masks are beneficial both ways. If you dont want to be infected, protect yourself. If you want to reduce the risk of infecting someone else, simply because the symptoms are not immediately self apparent, protect the other person. Masks work both ways. not 100% but its the best you have at the moment other than self isolate and you can always be sure that will work either because of what the other idiot is likely to do.

    I don't know.
Yes @Rye83, as you say there is a minority of the people who are reacting in fear.

There is also a minority of the people who disagree with the leaderships actions to reduce covid. This minority will not accept the advice from "respected" epidemiologists. The same "respected" epidemiologists that the current leadership is hearing and understanding. This minority lacks personal intellectual accountability.

Finally there is the majority of the people who, with personal intellectual accountability, evaluate the whole situation and express their opinion quietly.

Thankfully, due to the miracle of democracy, the majority with personal intellectual accountability are winning.

Why do you think the USA, GB, India, Mexico, Brazil, have so many infections. Need I go on? Are they just more susceptable? As I said. Wake up. This is highly infectious. It passes from person to person much more readily than other viruses we have experienced. And where people have followed wrong advice, and I cite the USA in this one, the results are disatrious. As i said befoe, believe what you will but please do not expect others to follow your misguided beliefs.

Those who care about other people will do all they can to protect all the groups I quoted - those who don't care about anyone, possibly even themselves (a fact which may be related to being old), will do nothing.

So it is an individual choice but backed by national controls to protect the nation against those who don't care about other people. In my reading (I have no list of sources - sorry Mr R!), it seems the majority wish to wear masks and protect themselves. This is a worldwide situation, I do not write exclusively about the Philippines.

i agree with this. its not one hundred percent effective but it will stop you from expelling most of the virus/droplet issued (if you have the virus). but its really only going to stop the spread of the virus if there is compliance. but, join me this morning at the main market in downtown dumaguete where there will be a hundred plus people. of those, there is no social distancing, no foot baths, no handwashing, no log or register and a minimum of half of the people either wear no mask or wear it on their chins. the cast change every hour by at least a hundred people, probably more. its like trying to stop a case of diarrhea with your finger
