Certainly Condolences but with the greatest Respect. Having had Admissions to the Police, Speculation should go out of the Window. Gossipers, especially on Facebook were not there and can only do harm in these things.

People seem to be quick to judge these guys. Confession or no, I hope the police do a full investigation. Who knows under what conditions the confession was made.

Why do people need money here? The selection sucks. I can't find anything I want to buy. When I do find something I want to buy, it's so low quality that I figure out alternatives and that I never really needed that thing in the first place. I find expensive meals excessive when there are such great meals which cost next to nothing. I get enough clothes from "family" sending boxes that I never need to go shopping. I could even get by without internet at home if I planned my day well enough as the cheap places to eat have wifi.

As a productive citizen, I don't need much money. What would I need a lot of money for?

Getting addicted to Shabu. It's great how this drug does some of the worst damage to society, yet its most hooked users needs lots of money.

Get lots of power. Everyone wants to be a big shot. Earning the money isn't nearly as glamorous though. Much easier to get there through some form of theft. Corruption is great, but burglary works in a pinch. Why do any of that when you can pick up labor at slave wages though?

Get laid. I have to admit that I'm a bit partial to this one myself. Since I have the ol' ball and chain and earning some green ones (as opposed to reds, blues and other funny colors) in the U.S. where streets are paved with gold, I don't have as much of an outlay on this one these days. Of course, that also means I'm not getting laid so much either. I guess someone should hand me some tissue for such a sad story, or was that tissue for something else? :D

Any guesses which these guys were after?

You are right... there is not much need to get money here. Maybe these guys were just DIF'ers (Do it yourself) . Maybe they dd not have enough money left after their latest drug buy to pay out up the 5,000 P for an assassin. Many times I have saved money myself by doing home projects by fixing things around the house. Of coarse I try to learn what I am doing first, so as not leave any finger prints and get credit for something I may not want to confess to later.

I can also agree about your stated need to get laid... but again maybe these guys always take things in life into their own hands... and are most likely follow the concept of DIF'ers in this category of life's pleasures too... So why did they need the money?

Time to join Imp in his afternoon nap.

Condolences and may she rest in peace. If the police did get the right suspects, good on them for solving a murder and solving it quickly.

I take this to it's logical conclusion in that this is no less tragic than countless other tragic events around the world. I can't express condolences for each of them individually and to truly feel empathy for each of them would destroy me. It's sort of like the reason we have constrained senses, so that we don't get sensory overload from our environment.

Instead, I simply accept tragedy as part of the human condition. We all know tragedy. Some have to endure more than others. All I can do is work my path the best I can to help improve the world in my own way. Hopefully that trickles down to shine some light in the darkest places. Even then, tragedy will always be with us.

My jokes may be cheap talk, but I take action. I bust my @ss every day in pursuit of my vision and in leading whoever else will buy into that vision. I give as much as I can to those I have offered a place in my circle. Hopefully the ripple effects will reach others.

Yes, it's tragic, but we can't point out that talk is cheap without following that up with real action. Otherwise it's just cheap talk following cheap talk.

Your right! Life and words are cheap here. I am sorry if I offended you or someone else with my previous post.

Preventative actions changes the course of lives at time. It could have been my daughter, or someone else that is close to me,but it was not my daughter, probably because of some precautionary action to protect her while she recently visited. Precautions similar to what almost any family member would take to protect another family member.

When adult daughter visited here a couple of weeks ago, I am very much doubtful that her life was every in jeopardy here. I worked most of my life to insure that none of my children’s lives would be put in jeopardy. particularly because of the impulsive act of thief and murder for 300 P. Like most fathers I tried to keep her safe in a foreign place. Addictions and money do not drive our family decisions in life. I did not take her to make drug buys, bet at cockfights, pick up men at bars etc. because I wanted to protect a member of my family from being in high risk places here. The most important thing here and most places of the world is the “family” social unit. Ask any Filipino what is the most important thing to them and they will say “family”. Is this just words and not action… in the case of the victims it was just words if it was ever spoken. The victims family did not take action to take care of each other(I apologize if this statement feels insensitive but read the newpaper post here, my statement is reality) … the wives of the killers were actually relatives of the victims. The non-blood family member killed other family members for a small sum of money, probably not even enough to pay the fare back to Cebu. This really is hard for me to understand, but life is cheap, almost worthless here.. insanity to me. There are safe places and safe families, here you have to have both to survive. You have to know what is safe and take the action to find the safe places. Having friends and family members with an shabu addiction and their constant need for money is not a safe environment. The number one obligation of a parent in my opinion is to care for and protect your children, not put them in vulnerable environments that are unsafe.

The first point of my original post was in agreement with you and I was trying to illustrate with my own form of humorous post that life in the Philippines is very very cheap and senseless at times to me. The respect for life is very low as illustrated by a simple thief while seeking a few hundred pesos kills one person dead; to the driving accidents to save few seconds but leaves bodies on the hiway; to the poor families with so many children that they cannot feed them or give their children opportunities for a good future; or even the possible faulty medical care that leaves a family without a love one Unfortunately we have all seen/felt these situations here, and elsewhere in the world. Even the assassins’ fee define the value of life here. Usually the fee to take someone’s life is rarely higher than a month’s rent of most expats homes here. Life is very cheap in the Philippines. So remember when you want to tell someone off here, that your life is only worth 5 – 8,000 Pesos.

Secondly, but not addressed in my previous post is that when I have been personally confronted by such a personal incidences as family/friends death I thank God for the time I had with the lost person. Any anger at anyone, including God, is useless, because I cannot control those types of events. Gratitude is the only thing that releases my emotions, moves my life ahead, gives me some small acceptance for the past, and somewhat positive view of the future. My ability to change the past has been tested, I have failed every time, my ability to totally control the future has also been tested, I have failed much of the time. i have been successful in modifying my future by keeping my eye wide open and modifying my actions to ovoid negative situations.

Unfortunately we cannot change the past or control the future in a way we totally want it to be. It is hard to even control our own self-destructive behavior against ourselves, as illustrated by the liquid breakfasts that are consumed around town by many here as they poison their own bodies, from morning to evening. That is life, and the sooner we realize other people make different choices, the sooner we can accept life, other cultures and other people here and almost everywhere. It has not always been easy to adjust my thinking. I have tried for a short time to adjust the Filipino’s people thinking about the value of life, reckless driving, dropping trash everywhere and many others things but realized that was a fruitless effort. It was easier to accept the way this culture lives, and while enjoying the lifestyle or move on; smiling and navigating my own life in the best way I know how. (Written without the spice of my usual dry humor, consequently in my opinion this post is boring to read… if you are still reading it then it may have made some sense to you… or pissed you off… whichever' thanks for reading to the end… sorry I could not do an entire post without some dry humor injected.)

I'm going to say this had to do with the girl cutting off the family funds or for money supposedly owed. Speculation of course. The guy on the right is way to fat to be a meth addict and the one on the left, I don't know if it's just me but his hands.....what's up with those meat beaters? They look....trollish. I have never seen anything like that before, looks like they were ran over by a car (perhaps how they got the confession). Either way, I know that society wants to place a blame on acts like these on something but in all honesty, these types of things have been happening way before the discovery of meth. Meth doesn't turn people into killers, these guys would have been more than willing to do the same thing with out any chemical assistance. I think it is a mental illness that caused this horrible idea to come to be (we all have thought about killing someone while we were pissed but we usually come to our senses before we act on it....I think some people lack that "common" sense). They can try to blame their mental problems on a drug but in reality they were probably screwed up well before they ever picked up that pipe (if they ever did). It is estimated that 1 out of 4 humans have some level of mental illness and there is a strong connection between addiction and mental illness. What we need to do is focus on identifying and treating people with mental illnesses if we want to start putting a dent into addiction and criminal behavior.
