Over the many years i have been here i have became numb to to most of the noise here but the one that still gets me is the noise made by these wooden tubes that they put petrol or some other combustible fuel in and it makes a bang comparable to a handgun going off.
If they used them just on Christmas day or new year because they can't afford proper firework's then fine but it seems to go on for weeks and at all times of day and night.
These things really scare all the dogs and if you had a baby you are trying to get to sleep then good luck, i never complain because i know it would be futile and probably just encourage them to increase the frequency of the bangs, none of the local people seem to mind it so once again i would just be a strict foreigner who can f**k off back to where i came.
I know it's the season of goodwill to all men BUT something that i often think of is that these things look homemade so if one was to explode and take a hand off would i feel any compassion, NO.
Maybe a bit harsh, ok then how about a couple of fingers (from each hand)
Happy new year.

I recall the Mother and Son, that were shot and killed 2 years ago by a Police Officer over a noise canon! I would hope that Philippines would calm this practice down. In no way does it contribute to a Happy celebratory feeling!

The world is getting even with me for my past. In a land far far away I was the noise making kid and enjoyed July 4 and New Years. From roman candles being shot at friends down the street (they returned fire), strings of blackcats in the mailbox just to blow open the door (and leaving the residue for the mailman).
Started 3 grass fires (only needed fire department once).
Having some land on neighbors roof (no damage but he wasn't happy).
Houses under construction made great places to set off fireworks and hide from cops.
Saving some fireworks for special days or just wanting to be mischievous.
On the jet ski at 6:30 am when the water was smooth as glass to really get to full speed.
Bon fires - sooooo fun----
The longer I stay on memory lane the more there is. The difference between me and the people here is I had to do my stuff WITHOUT my parents knowing. Here it seems the "adults" are the catalyst, maturity (self awareness and sence of others) ended around the age of 15yrs old. This in turn leads to the "look at me" and I need affirmation of my value from other people. The culture is full of low self esteem (anyone ever criticized a local), prideful, and self-centered individuals who CHOOSE to stay in their ignorant bubble rather than take time for self reflecting and elevating themselves, the family and society.
Not all, but most.-

Interesting how they are made. The fuel is Tiger brand fuel (normally for cooking). The ignition is from an electric start lighter pressed into a soda bottle top, the spark ignights the fumes. All that and I agree, those, the plastic horns (which will wash up on the beach in a month or so) all day and night. Why? Because it's culturally accepted to assume if I like loud noises and karaoke and K-pop misic then everyone does.-
