I would like to bring to the attention of all filipino born citizens whom have a second citizenship and that are happily using their newly acquired citizenship's passport when travelling, that they are to apply for a filipino citizenship retention at their local Philippine Embassy. It consists of filling up a form and presenting it, alongside other documentations required, to the Embassy where they will be required to make an oath of allegiance, pay the one off fee and also for their new passport. Their application will then be forwarded to the relevant office in Manila and a few weeks later they'll receive a new passport.
Many are happily ignoring this and using either passports without declaring it to the Philippine Embassy. They may or may not be aware, but doing so breaches the law as by not registering they have unwittingly given up their filipino citizenship and all rights that go with it, including land/ property ownership. They may get away with it for a while but when they get cought......
