⌛ For a While

I received a few "for a while" responses today. It made me think of when I first started working in the Manila area I was given a secretary and the first day I asked her how I get my office phone hooked up. Her response was, "for a while sir". Well, I never heard that phrase before and wasn't sure what she was telling me, but she was off before I could ask her to clarify. I got a lot more of that same response that first week and it finally dawned on me what it meant.
When I first came to Dgte, I got a lot of, "I will be the one" statements. I knew what that meant but hadn't heard used, I liked that one.
When I met my wife, she likes to use the words "direct" and "transfer" a lot.
What other phrases in English do you find unusual here?

 

"Out of stock", even if they have never stocked it.

 

"The car has color blue" instead "It's a blue car" same with shapes.

I am the one who has a beer soon in color gold and temperature cold.... if it is out of stock I smash the place into matchsticks and 5 gallons of mighty bond are not enough to rebuild it

"Out of Stock", no truer words were ever spoken. We went to Robinson's Market this afternoon, went to the normal eggs section, and no s__t, no eggs, we thought they moved the stack, asked a few employees as we're moving on and they point back to the normal section. Went to customer service, you got it, "out of stock".

My wife says it's visaya. I hear it all the time.

 

Don't make fun of the foreign embassy..... I like to run down there once in a while for a close approximation of the junk food back home. The Big Mac is just like back home, it's never properly stacked and leans like the tower of Piza and there is always too much special sauce. The only deficiency is the hamdesal should really be a proper hamburger bun lol
