IMHO it would more stressful dealing with locals. I'm thinking it would likely fare better if I knew their language. I personally don't think owning a bar is a good ROI here in the Filipines. I used to see all kinds of bars in Angeles City change hands it was commonplace. And, throw in the possibility that you could get into some heavy drinking that could ruin your health.
Oh lets see now!! One comes to mind, "taco tyio" just up the street from garcia's!! Next to bob's liquor! 90% foreigners! If fact, when my wife & I go there she and fellow patrons wives, are the only locals I ever see in there!! A few times driving by there are locals sitting outside drinking, but that is really a minority!! If you have not been there b/4, they have american soft taco's and a burritos, that has lots of things in it!! Moderately priced and very good tasting!! The owner is "low" !! But he has philippine kitchen help & waitresses!! His wife is usually behind the bar! Big screen tv with lots of american sports!! I hope that helps & it does help him out also!! He does a good job & keeps it clean also!! Edited by moderator to remove all caps.
Hmmm, have not been on this site for awhile, for no particular reason, but seems some of the members are a bit uptight! Life is too short!
You are most certainly right about that, it is far too hard 'bar ownership' can speak from experience in Pattaya and would think it is no different there.
Since I have lived here! The people getting uptight are usually drunk!! That said, taco tyio has a wet bar with food!! And tv also! That combination usually leads to uptightness! About the last time they got screwed by their ex employer!! Who knows why someone will pay to get drunk, just to get enough guts to complain about something nobody can fix! I can't tell how many times I have drank in bars in Dumaguete or the number of beers I have drank. It has been very rare in my case where things turn ugly. Most guys get happy when they drink. There is the odd one who is miserable to begin with and just gets more miserable when drinking. Taco Tayo run by Lo is great little place to eat and drink some of the coldest beer in town. Their Mexican dishes are to die for. They come with salsa, sour cream and jalapenos. The staff are all great. If you are into sports and American football they have a live feed that gets all the sports you want.
Hmm, and here I was thinking that alcohol had a tendency to lower inhibitions and turn the most uptight person into a carefree social butterfly.
when it comes to Garcias it makes you wonder How a guy can have a business and run it when he can't even answer a simple question with an explanation. Also Garcias wasn't very succeseful when the last owner ran it. He was not well liked and the one thing in Dumaguete is you better have the support of the community or you will fail. He did not have that support.
