This Forum has been a great help to me,finding out about Dumaguete and the surrounding area's and Islands like Bohol, Sigujior etc
The Information and photographs submitted by different members have also been a great insight.
However, lets not pretend that all is wonderful in the garden, I refer to the recent reports of crime in and around Negros.
Someone recently asked the question how safe is Dumaguete and was ridiculed for asking....well let those who know answer the question.
Let's be more open about everything and help those who wish to visit/stay get a balance view of life here...regards JB

 

I would think being "Open minded" would mean that you should accept the response you (or the poster you refer to) received. Should someone else felt strong enough to answer otherwise they would have done so. Does open mindedness mean getting the answer you want? Or am I being closed minded? Your answer is the sum of all responses. Even ones not sent. The lack of responses tell you something too.

John Boy it looks like you have been associated to the forum for quite awhile and you should know that the safety question has been asked many times in the past and there are several past links and posts that describe some events that some of us have witnessed ourselves and some events more theoretical but perhaps relevent.

And as is commonly pointed out often on this forum when questions are not specific, when answering all you will receive is generalizations. And you are correct not all is "wonderfull in the garden" and that has also been discussed previously quite a bit.

That why some of us are quite taken aback and really curious when people express that they have found paradise here, at least I have heard the PI and many other foreign countries being refered in that way many times but why are they saying that? Is it because they believe the cost of living here is lower than where they come from? Do they think that they can afford to buy up all of the land as an investment and sell it more expensively and walk away with a wonderfull profit? Young women will date older men and seem to enjoy it? Is that what paradise is? I dont really know, what I do know is that I have a lot of family that lives here and I myself love it and find it charming, but not for any of the reasons mentioned above. So yes opinions can be quite subjective and the reader needs to take what is given here with much salt I guess. So if you are referring to a very specific incident or specific crime maybe we can help you speculate on what the meaning or cause of it was if that was your wish.
