A directional well here, used to cost around P5-7 million, (vertical wells P3-4 million) depending on the end depth (TD), well geometry complexity and potential problems encountered during drilling(stuck pipe, sidetracking, lost circulation), etc etc. This was an average P.N.O.C. field cost estimate in 1995. At today's costs I'd reckon it'd cost almost double, perhaps more, P50 million will maybe get them 3 exploration wells, if they're lucky. Attempting re-entry into existing wells, would be unlikely since well casing left in the original wells, will probably have been eaten away long ago, as Andiflip says due to high acid content of what little steam they first found. I'm unsure of the acceptance criteria now used by whoever owns the power stations, but historically, any steam containing over 3% acidity (Sulfuric, Hydrochloric etc), could not be used due to the steam turbine blades in the generators being eaten away too quickly. However, personally I wouldn't put anything past the power management 'buffoons' in the country, take N.N.G.P. in Bago City, Negros Occidental for example: - Based on the very poor results of the original exploration 3 wells (I drilled), they went on to drill 8 production wells and 3 re-injection wells, a 40-50Mwa power plant, that produces less than 8- 10Mwa if they're lucky. Yes, money well spent indeed, probably only marginally better than some person/persons stealing it, I guess. (On the bright side, at least quite a few locals had work during the project construction though).
Happened to be up that way on Saturday but did not find it but did find a large pit in the ground with many steam vents coming out and a small cave which was the hottest I had ever been, tried to get a pic in there but even the phone would not work! Oh and ruined a good t shirt as water from roof of cave dripping took the blue straight out due to the high acid content! I have now found out I should of gone straight up concrete rd to the top and it is there but is there anything to see?
Well we got up to the geothermal site at dauin yesterday, quite a hike from where we had to leave the car but cracking views from the site when we got there! Apparently as informed by a local who was working there this site will reopen in jan 2012 and operations will commence from April 2012!!!!! Had a look at the three test wells and one full water and other two just silt, site area is still tidy and clean so should not take too much to reopen the site. Not sure what has changed for them to reopen this as thought the steam was too acid? Anyway it was good to go up and see this, after we tried to find the path that takes you up over talinnis, again when we got to the top of the gravel rd and asked a local and they just pointed at a non existent path through some scrub and up into the forest so thought better of it and will go back another day!
If you don't mind asking, how and where did you go up to that site and if I understand you correctly in that you want to go up to Mt.Talinis, I have to warn you against it at this time of the year, it is very difficult to predict the weather and you don't want to go up there when it did rain the day before or during raining, to slippery....
There is a turning between san mig and dauin with mostly a good concrete rd with the usual bits missing, you will eventually get to a wire fence which you can pass with a bike but not a truck etc. As for hiking up talinis it's on the cards to do but decided I going to get a local to show me the route the first time I do it,have got all the right kit here and always with me when up in the mountains, went so far up from Valencia a few weeks ago and also know someone who got caught out up there last week and had to spend the night!
The crossing to go up is called Libayo. I am pretty sure it is the first paved crossing past San Miguel. Stay to the right when you hit a fork about a klick up.
Not Libayo '''''Lipayo.. also If you go waaaaaaaay up,thats where the new Geothermal plant is (going to be)...Miguel
P50 million If you go back to KTM's post you will see that P50 million might drill 3 wells,, About the acid who knows with new technologies and materials but let me tell you that P50 million is not going to buy the necessary pipe work, separators, and won't even buy a turbine and generator now a days.. I guess you could call it a "pipe dream".
