I can only wish you luck. When Globe first installed our DSL connection, it worked okay. They would only guarantee speeds to Cebu. I signed up for the 7 Mbps service and tested it for the first few weeks and it worked as advertised. Please understand though that MOST of the internet I want is NOT inside the Philippines. I have a server in Europe, as well as websites in the USA that I visit most often. My download speeds (when I first got service) was dismal, but I could get maybe 100 Kbps in the morning (down). By afternoon, that speed was down to 20-30 Kbps. Lately though, in the morning only, I might have 2.5 Mbps service (to Cebu only). Pings are around 500 ms. Upload is now around 500 Kbps. Other times my test have failed (no service), or have shown maybe 100 Kbps to Dumaguete (download), while the upload as been zero. I also tried using Globe 4G/LTE for internet when I first arrived in Dumaguete (Jan. 2016). At times (rarely) I'd have 4G/LTE, while most times I'd just have 3G and sometimes 2G. Keep in mind that 4G/LTE in the Philippines is nowhere near the speed of 4G/LTE in modern countries and probably not as good as 3G in modern countries.
Well it got sorted in the end,it was a line error as expected. When I logged into the globe router there were 4000+ crc errors. They replaced the line from the box to the house and all sorted. The same guys have been coming here since we have been here and sorting our issues. We now just ring them directly as ringing Manila is a total waste of time and takes ages to get through. We always give them some lunch money if it's a big job and always keeps them happy.
How is the internet outside of Dumaguete? Is there only internet over 3G/4G possible? Possible other locations I consider to move is Valencia, Tanjay, Bais and Manjuyod.
I have Globe 4G broadband in Bacong, works better than I thought it would. Moving to Valencia City in a couple weeks, will find out what kind of connection my rooftop antenna gets me then.
I first noticed LTE outside of Dumaguete. There is a stretch from Banilad heading towards Bacong which is LTE for either Smart or Globe or both. I don't remember which. Each provider has LTE available in different areas of town. I guess when I got here I started with the worst and never got my expectations up. I had a ~350 kbps connection from Philsouth I believe. We upgraded to Globe with a faster connection and it regularly had problems. First next place I moved to was a wireless connection which was just on the edge of signal strength. I paid something like 1K extra for an extended antenna and I never got that connection stable until I unplugged the antenna (apparently the antenna built in to the modem was better). The next move was out of area and they zapped my connection because of it (I didn't know I had to have them change my address). I then got the mobile connection and have never looked back. I have learned to deal with slow connections. Luckily, being a programmer I'm usually only dealing with small text files. During my personal time, I don't deal with much media. I don't watch T.V. and I don't watch shows on the internet. Messaging (Skype) and streaming music work well enough. I don't do video messaging. I suppose if I were to use a super fast connection, it would be hard to go back. But I have used significantly faster connections here (some places having 16 mbps compared to my 1 mbps with Smart 3G) and while it's noticeable, it's not a game changer for my usage. I would have to change my workflow / lifestyle to require high connectivity. But with my work, old school tools are often the best tools. I would rather not spoil myself and set myself up for disappointment later.
I haven't had any issues in West Balabag, Valencia for awhile. I strictly use YouTube and other online streaming options for my entertainment needs. It usually slows down around 5-6pm until around 9-10pm making streaming video impossible. Speeds usually fast enough for regular browsing during that time though. If it gets really bad I'll use my mobile as a WiFi Hotspot, which is usually good enough for streaming, though it eats up my data, is rather expensive and i sometimes get hit up on Globe's FUP. I have a few extra SIM cards (Globe, Smart and Sun) that i can switch between if the main Internet is really crap for a long period of time and i need to work around FUPs. Do you have any tenants sucking up your bandwidth? You should be able to log on to the globe modem and see your download speeds. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
That was my thoughts at first,we have a load sharing router and checked and all seems well. Seems like it was just the line issue.
