They think a lot of the cost of them there are due to the import duty, of which you will pay more than they do if you decide to import. For instance, you should expect costs to be something like this; Cost of motorcycle $20,000 Import tax $20,000 Shipping $4000 Bribe, misc $1000 LTO registration $1000 Cost of a $20,000 motorcycle bought in the US and shipped to the Philippines, $45,000+. Not to mention the hassles you are going to go through, which will be phenomenal. Expect to spend months or even years going through the red tape, during which you will have that nice machine sitting in your driveway, and you won't even be able to ride it without risking it's being impounded. Ask anyone who has imported a motor vehicle, they will all tell you one thing, NEVER AGAIN! I know of one Harley in the area that was imported close to 3 years ago, no registration yet... Maybe buying in Manila would be worth considering? There are also some VERY nice used bikes around, already legally registered... Larry
got to agree, I brought my box trailer with me when I containered my stuff from AU, tried to get it registered here what a dilemma, the old LTO guy here said I would have to pay p7k plus to find someone to assist me in getting approval of its construction, I said it is better than any trailer built here, might go see the new LTO guy see if he wants to rip me aswell.
I appreciate the responses here, just so everyone knows I am not necessarily buying a Harley, I just want a bike big enough to haul my fat @ss, and my wifes much smaller posterior in comfort. The last time I went into a motorcycle dealership I told the salesman I was looking for a stereo with saddlebags and cruise control that had a motorcycle attached. Kind of hard for most of them to come up with.
