If it sounds too good to be true it usually is. I have a set of digitally programable hearing aides, recommended by one of the top places in the U.S. called the Flint Michigan School for the deaf. I was also thoroughy examined by the hearing specialty unit of Henry Ford Hospital Division. Both places had identical results about 20 years apart. So I have $5,000.00 USD worth programable hearing aides I'd sell for $2,500.00. All you need is someone to program them. In my case which is somewhat common I have lost most of my high frequency hearing due to my military activities. Every letter in the alphabet is a different frequency. I do not hear the letters F, S , T, H at all. I do not hear birds sing and chirp, some police sirens, womens and liite kids voices, leaves rustling , faucets drip, and so forth all laid out on a nice chart. Heres the deal. Íf you only increase the volume for me, then things only get worse. Hence the programable were supposed to only increase each frequncy individually by the amount of loss for each one. Unfortunaely in my case they do not work well, too much loss or ? And they told me it was a gamble. So, my loss. No pun intended. Mine were made I beleive by AHS out of Minnesota U.S.A.. I'd have to look for the original packaging which I do have somewhere. Bottom line buyer beware. All is not gold that glitters. If you have an across the board hearing loss then increasing just the volume "may" help. If any of you know who i am, I most likely will not hear you if you are behind me or there is background noise. I have to "watch" you talk. I do not lip read because I had lessons but the folks said my brain ? just taught itself to pay close attention and watch people talk. I wasn't even wawre that I was learning lip reading. I have just applied to the V.A. for the third time for a tad of assistance. I had great hearing when i went in the military in Jan. 1963, but 4 years latter when trying to get civilian job at Ford Motor Compant and Geceral Motors they would not hire me due to my hearing damage. I have other military realted issues but I was taught to tough it out and in 1966 I never thought for what ever reson to go back to the Military or VA at that time for anything. Just live with it. At least I came home alive wihich is more than many. Have great day. like I say, If I apperar to ignor you on the street, in a store, or whatever, it is usually not on purpose. lol I just don't "hear/see" your lips.
Just a note. Please do not approach me from the rear and touch or grab me. I am still very very goosey about being attacked. And at my current age I am quite capable I can assure you. It is just an automatic response mechanism. But I am very friendly as long as I am approached from an advantage point where I can see or hear you. Thank you.
Thanks for the informative reply. As of now I was able to get a cheap amplifier type with adjustable volume from the States. It's a small transmitter attached to her and headphone plugged into her ear's. At first she ran around the house with a huge smile on her face, until something went wrong and it let out a loud sequel I could hear across the room. I cleaned the volume wheel with contact cleaner and it seemed to work. But now she is afraid to use it due to the bad pain it caused. I was told by a friend that he had a set that needed adjusting, but no one in town would or could do it. Ron
Naw, not in the Navy. They were running for port and cover when we were just warmimg up. lol Right Navy ? lol
She had the volume too high. It's just what is called feedback. The minature microphone is obviously very close to the minature speaker. That is very common. Start with the volume very low, and gradually increase the volume until you hear a slight squeal, then turn it back down about 1/4 of a turn. You should find tons of operating instructions by Googling or any search engine. Samer problem with the stupid karaoke, they turn it up so high it squeals, again "feed back". Somehow it appears that if one is a bad singer like 99% of the people that turning the volume up to maximum will cure that. There will be a huge market for hearing aides here in the very near future and a lot of hearing damage will not be correctable with hearing aides. Are you listening kids ?
She also will most likely not be able to use a phone or cell phone while the hearing aide are in. Read up on it.
