I see a RED FLAG. I suggest you do what the guys here adviced you to do. Hire a private investigator, itll save you money and heartaches.
my suggestion for you is leave this girlfriend of yours.. money that she asked from is too much. and to be a filipino is shameful to hear this kind of stories specially that she is your girlfriend.. Leave her and find another one who can love you and treat you honestly.
I Agree with kewl and nice , Trust is more important than love if you dont have trust you have nothing . She may have 3 other guys sending money as well. Your lucky you found this sight to help you, I know a guy that sent 40th peso to a girl he met on line for a passport . Good luck hang in there you will find a good on many to choose from. DONT send money and run if you are asked to do so. CHEERS
TRUST IS A BIG WORD. @ thread starter- remember shes only your online girlfriend and shes already ripping you off how much more if she ends up as your wife and most of the properties you plan on acquiring in the future will be in her name and she will have most control of it? think of it this way, shes not doing the right thing already and you guys are still together do you honestly believe that she wont keep ripping you off? I know an American guy who is 65 yrs old now and still working in Afghanistan because his wife spent all his money including his retirement money. he bought her many properties and when he flies back to Afghanistan she will start pawning the properties to the bank and will be giving out money to her Filipino lover and friends. shes a hardcore party goer. I feel sorry for the poor bugger because everytime he comes home, all the money he made from working overseas will just go on paying INTEREST! and it keeps piling up! but id say his stupid to let her keep doing it to her. his much better off with someone else that can treat him right and will care for him regardless if his got money or not! you'll see many around that's just after of money so I wish you all the best and please be careful out here. a lot of "innocent faces" will surely put a big hole in your pocket!
I'm going to take the opposite approach as everyone else here. There isn't much that we can determine from this. There is only one piece of advice that I can give you here. Don't send money with any expectations attached to that money, especially if you don't know the person you are sending it to very well. Don't blame the girl. You screwed up. You put the girl in a position to fail and disappoint. This is your fault. It's easy to say the person ripped you off. It's easy to toss around the prices of everything. But the fact is, we don't know what happened. 15K can be a lot of money to someone living frugal in a village in the Philippines, but it's not much money in general. Once you get someone outside that village and into unknown situations, then it's real easy to blow through 15K. Many of the people replying to this thread are highly knowledgeable, well traveled and effective at getting things done.Your girlfriend might just be a disaster in all three categories. The less knowledgeable you are, the more of a premium you need to be ready to pay. Because she is a Filipina, she should have a bit of a leg up on foreigners because she can speak the language. However, everyone in this country is a hustler. Everyone is trying to grab as much as they can from anyone they can. If your girl hasn't been far from Bayawan, then it would be very easy for her to fall for the many schemes in this country which can make travel far more expensive than it has to be. Taxis may run without meters and drive and take you on the long routes. Pedi cab drivers can sniff out people who are new to the city and ask you how much you are willing to pay to get to a certain location rather than charging you what the trip should actually cost. When you tell either of the above that you need a place to stay, they always come back with their suggestions for hotels. When you get to the hotel, only the most expensive rooms are available. Government offices may run into "problems" running your paperwork and perhaps you can get around those problems with an extra fee. These people can be manipulative and highly convincing to someone who doesn't know any better. While getting a passport may not be expensive, getting all the way to from zero to visa (assuming she can even get a visa) can be quite expensive. Suggestions: Be it a job or a process requiring lots of steps, you often have to provide highly detailed instructions for every step of the way to expect someone here to be successful in accomplishing something. In this case, you would have to provide a detailed travel plan and exact expenses for everything. You can't do that from where you are at. One suggestion is to come to the Philippines and walk the person though the process yourself so that you can see what the expenses are. Alternatively, you could hire someone with that knowledge as a third party service. Larry (Shadow) provides such a service. You would still have to pay a premium, but at least you would know exactly what you are getting. In either case, I wouldn't bother with attempting anything until you have had a chance to meet this person face to face. Or, she could just be a scammer.
I can personally recommend the C&L Topview in Bayawan. Stayed there for about two weeks last year, and it was a great improvement over the old pension house where we used to stay when we visited. I think it's the tallest building in town, and has a nice little rooftop open air restaurant. I actually posted a few pictures last year of the hotel and Bayawan area if you're interested: http://www.dumagueteinfo.com/board/photo-board/our-april-2012-trip-bayawan-cebu-part-1-a-10885.html They are associated with a couple of C&L hotels in Dumaguete (never stayed there), and if you're passing through Dumaguete they could probably help with reservations in Bayawan. One more red flag is the mother taking time to sit in front of the camera. Protecting her daughter or some old lady looking for 10%?
