    Hey all,

Looking at moving to Dumagueta from CDO. Trying to get a bit of info if people could help with some answers and any further info thought relevant.

    1. Housing and lots, would be looking to rent a 2-3 bedroom medium size house, are they regularly available to find. Family of 4 plus helper. Also would be looking to build a house, are decent sized large house lots in good stock w/o being far on the outskirts of town.
    2. Shopping areas, I know Dumaguete has Robinsons Place but any other malls and larger shopping areas? Is it fairly easy to get most the things a person would want that are usually available in other cities not counting Cebu and Manila.
    3. Beaches, are there fairly easy to get to and access beaches that are clean and safe that aren't a 45-60 minute drive outside the city.
    4. Internet speeds, what's the internet speeds and service their like? Is the service fairly stable or very sporaditic. Instance here in CDO easily get a 2MB connection that is fairly stable, however a mate 45 mins out of the city has a 3MB connection that drops out 10-20 times a day and he can never stay connected regularly to internet games.
    5. Schools, both of my kids are a tad young to start school yet but would be settling down there to stay longterm, hence are the schools a fairly solid standard (not by filipino standards but foreign standards, other Asian or Western standards. no offense intended).
    6. Driving conditions for cars. My wife and I are planning on buying a vehicle shortly likely a Multicab. Have heard roads are a bit narrow but would it still be easily feasible driving.
    7. Ease of getting between Cebu and Dumaguete, are there bus's between and their cost and travel time? Regular ferries between Cebu and Dumaguete. Would it be easiest driving ourselves when have our own vehicle?
Thanks, and any other info thought relevent more then willing to listen to. Also we are planning a trip to visit within next 1-2 months.

    WELCOME! To PI.

Ch Macqueen! ,,, Quite a mouthful, Can we call you Steve? ( McQueen) he he he :D Welcome to DI and welcome to PI. My friend, it is never going to be the same as where you come from, Look, Listen and Learn. Go with the Flow, Unless you are plenty Rich then join us in the Everyday happenings here. We choose to come for whatever reason and now we must live with it. All your questions are valid but bear no resemblance to a real life as you know it. Soon you will learn that this is NOT the place where the grass grows greener, We love it because we choose to, I hope you do not become disillusioned too quickly.

Thanks for the response but my questions are quiet valid. I've been living the past few years in the Philippines in Cagayan de Oro City on Mindinao. Been around to a few other places also in the Philippines. Understand the life fairly well and quite used to it, just looking for the place thats just right for me before build my house with my lovely Filipina wife and 2 children. However budget is tight (darned expensive kids yah know) so best getting some details first to either cancel out the idea or affirm a solid choice to investigate.

Still can't see how it could be worse then over here in CDO. Mindinao having likely continueing power issues for the next 8-10 years while the Visaya's and Luzon have minor issues but also plans with money to expand.... while Mindinao is ignored by the Fed Government. Also NO beaches here that aren't pretty much raw sewage, among with unstable economy from power crisis ongoing being a bad place to invest (yes my wife and I have our heart set on a small fun business and yes we know all the details and risks).

    CH! Feet on the Ground!

CH! what a pleasure to read posts from someone who has his feet on the ground. You do not say if you are a Filipino or a " Foreigner" makes no Difference to me, I have been here so long that I forget where I came from, you are so right about the difference from CDO and I know that from the sound of it, you will adjust quite quickly here. As my Signature says, " Life is for Living" Welcome, stay and enjoy the City of Gentle people." Ask all you need to, Read all you should do and it will all make sense in the end. There is a Lot of information in the recent posts to cover all the Questions you ask and I know that, all the OP's will gladly expand on any issue therein.
    Have a Good week End,
