had this forum recommended to me by Jack Petersen, that is a good enough thumbs up for me. Living in Thailand with Filipino gf, would rather be there. But Phils is our ultimate destination.
Dumageute has been recommended as a good place to hang up the sign.

Lol! I am very much a Filipino. I may live abroad but hubby and I come to visit the Philippines briefly each time and each time to different islands for different experiences and sceneries. But obviously, you are trapped in a wrong circle of Pinoys? Just kidding but normally these are the type of people who lack better understanding of the situation/s and blame is the only way out. That does not only happen in the Philippines though ... it happens anywhere in the world, I so observed. Some countries even resort to not only blame but also gruesome violence ..... sad!

I don't think it would take much for her to pick up on Bisaya. I'm sure that once you meet foreigners and their girlfirends/wives that they would be nice enough to teach her the language. She would be subject to the Tagalog tax at first (this is a variation of the long-nose tax that I have seen given by the locals). One of the expats that owns a bar in Dumaguete has a girlfriend/fiance from Manila, it certainly didn't stop my gf and her jabbering away in some language I didn't understand.

Correct, You did not meet her, because she was before coming to the Philippines, but I still laugh about her and it is a true story. Similar in culture as here, very dramatic and dependent. I started her in many businesses... none survived.

Sometimes her English was cute. One time the cat was going through the bedroom and it had a bell on the collar. She said "take the music off the cat." meaning remove the bell.

Ha ha! I am laughing to death!!! I believe you though 100% Even my own Filipino friends here just drive me into an abyss of confusion with the way they say things - pronunciation creates major language barriers as well. Like my friend phoned me she was lost on her way to my house so she will just wait for me at LOUISE (as in Louise and Clark) so she can follow me to my house. So, I asked her where is LOUISE? She told me it's just around the corner by my house. So, I pondered hard and long and tada! I asked her, "You mean Lowe's?" Long pause and finally she said, "Oh yes, yes. Lowe's." Ayayyyyyy!

 luxdox she is a 50 year old CPA and understands perfectly, the reverse Economics of the PI. Like most of the Electorate here it is easier to Blame Everyone else.
A fact you will soon understand when you live here Full time. + of course those things you will need on arrival but. [IMG] + the Brownouts

then when in the City [IMG] as if we could go any faster

And all this is our fault. Cos it is never theirs. Then it is the Filipino way so it must be good.

Having said all this, I still love it here.

Mogo51, welcome! People in Dumaguete are quite versatile in the language/dialect department. Most generally they speak Tagalog when spoken to so there should not be a problem with your girlfriend. Hope this helps.
