Ask a landlord or the Barangay Captain. You can also post here in the classifieds section for help needed and I will post it on the DI Favebook page.

HI, i found our live in helper with the help of our landlord.
however, you must be aware of the kasambahay law.
you need to make a contract with maximum of 2 years ( mine is 6 months renewable ) and give them benefits of 13 month salary. social security system, philhealth and pag-ibig fund.. it is according to the law.
I'm telling you now, it's not easy to register one.. you have to make several trips at the offices or register them online (if the website is working).. and be at the offices at opening time or the cue will be like forever... plus loads of paperwork.
    anyway...
My helper's sister is looking for work..she is 19 years old, she used to work in manila as helper. if you want to try her, just let me know the details.. (location, salary) and I will ask her.

In my experience, i told our helper that I will try her for five days then after that I will tell her whether she's hired or not and also if she's okay with the work or not.. then signing of the contract..

I think you will find that most Filipina that apply for a helper position barely exist in the eyes of the law. A birth certificate my be the only form of identification they have ever had, if you are lucky maybe a voter's ID. On top of that most police stations throughout the province do not have the ability to put crimes in a central database. The chances the NBI will find something is pretty slim even if they have some petty crimes on record in their provincial town...and most petty crimes in the province are dealt with locally and will rarely go above the Barangay Captain level anyways. It's a waste of time IMO. I hold the belief that the local government should be avoided whenever possible. (I've had a helper steal from me but I'm not going to waste the time reporting a petty crime to the police, it's a waste of everyone's time.)

If a helper has previously worked the job you will be much better off asking for their previous employers contact information. Just my 2 cents.

Suggestions for when you find a live-in helper.
Set expectations clearly in terms of job duties, pay, pay days, working hours, breaks, time/days off, holidays, dress code (if any), 13 month pay, cell phone usage, meals, and other questions you or she may have. Good luck.

If I was looking for a helper, I always go to my landlord, as she has a vested interest in insuring that I am happy living in her house. She has found me the best. You need to decide whether you want a live in, or part time. Currently I have two part time helpers, One who is 25 married with daughter and lives about 5 houses away. The other is the "goat girl" who brings her goats over to "mow" the lawn and fertilize it too. She also does simple tasks in the yard. She is not always reliable but I do not depend on her for much either.
Learn what you helper is the best at and use them for that... some are better in the house, some better with pets, and some better working outside.... and of coarse some are better working for someone else.
Good luck, everyone has a different approach to hiring a helper, but I think most will agree that one without the drama :frown: of an unstable relationship is best
