    Hi Everyone,

    Hi Chris,

Nice to meet you. What brings you to the states and how long have you been away from your home town? What are some of the things that you miss and do you plan to return?

    Sincerely,

    Tom

    Hi Tom and Pickled Newt,

Thank you very much for the warm welcome to this site. I am enjoying it here!

Well, as to what brings me here, I met my husband in a Christian Cafe website and after 6 months of chatting each other, he decided to visit the Philippines and proposed marriage to me. He processed my Fiance Visa soon after he got back to US and after one year he came to the Philippines and we got married at Malatapay Beach Resort in Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental on April 8, 2006. Few days after the wedding, we left for US. I have been here for more than a year now. Certainly, I always want to go back to Dumaguete...there is no place like home. I used to participate in group art shows as a visual artist in Dumaguete while I also used to work as a Guidance Counselor in Silliman and in Foundation University. We hope we could retire in Dumaguete someday. :D

    God bless.

    Sincerely,

    Cris

Hello, Cris. You reminded me of a teacher in high school (NOHS), Mr. Gayo (first name I forgot) from Tanjay. He was my teacher in English. Are you maybe related?

In which department of SU have you been counselling? I graduated SU long time ago but it is always nice to hear fellow Sillimanians out there.

    Josephen

Wow ,beach wedding !That is cool ,with the alluring view of Apo Island blend in with the beach scenery ,super! Must be thought out by an artist. There was actually a query in one of the threads here sometime ago about any existing local artist group in Dumaguete ,but I couldn’t even at the slightest recommend the OGPA coz it’s only of students or might be of dormant mode again. But your local artist group cris might well be suitable for anybody 'round Dgte interested to join in. Is Susan C in your group? Is there any contact number or address for queries ?

Cris, If you and your hubby ever get to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, let us know. We'll take you for a tour. I like Tennessee. Folks are as friendly as Texas, maybe more. Better weather there, too!

The Gayos, our wedding, OGPA and invitation to Texas

Hi Josephen, Pickled Newt and Wretched Hyena,

Thanks for your reply to my thread. I appreciate that.

Josephen, was the first name of your teacher Raymundo Gayo? If it is, then he is my grandfather, but I did not have the chance to see him...he was promoted in heaven a long time ago :D . The Gayos from Tanjay are sure relatives of ours because Gayos originated in Tanjay but unfortunately I did not have the chance to know all of them because we did not have any family reunion. I used to be a Guidance Counselor assigned for CNAS-- Nursing, Med. Tech and PT in 2000-2001 while in Silliman, a substitute position at that time when some regular guidance counselors were on study leave. By the way, do you happen to know my sister Julie Grace Gayo? She took up agriculture in Silliman and graduated in 2001.

Pickled Newt, Yes we had a wonderful wedding at Malatapay Beach Resort! We had a full canvas of the Apo Island view during our wedding ceremony and reception. Since I have a lot of artist friends, they helped our wedding very memorable. The FU Rondalla headed by Mr. Carmelo Elii offered tribute of Filipino Rondalla repertoir, while the FU Buglas Sayaw headed by Tingting Delfin offered tribute of Tinikling dance and a dance to prepare the altar carrying the cross, the Bible and the flowers, the SU Covenant Choir headed by Prof. Joseph Basa and Elamn Caguindanagan offered a song for us as well as Althea Alforque and the visual artists (OGPA & ALON) offered a colloborative painting for us...my husband and I really appreciated it so much! It made our wedding unique and very artistic indeed! Yes we have an arist group in Dumaguete. The active group at that time was SILAW with Kiity Tanigutchi but later on that evolved to ALON (Artist League of Oriental Negros) but I have no idea if it is still active as a group. FU has an artist group too with Herseley Ven Casero and OGPA for Silliman (but no idea if it is also active). OGPA was very active during my time (1987-1992). I am sure there are other artist group in Dumaguete...I think there is one headed by Mark Valenzuela. Just try to ask about it from Susan Canoy regarding the other artist groups...she owns the Sue's Art and Craft in Tinago along Rizal Boulevard. I hope I have answered that to the best of what I know...hahahahaha. :D

Wretched Hyena, thank you very much for your warm offer to tour us in Texas. I hope I can see other parts of US too! Do visit us also in Tennessee!

    Have a nice day everyone!

    God bless.

    Cris

Go to Washington D.C. It's amazing to see all of the monuments and places where things happen. Philadelphia is not far away and worth a visit, too. Yes, the U.S. is so full of things to see!

Julie Gracious! Say hello to her. Say from Whoopi. The Scheide Farm and the Main Campus know me as WHOOPI.

About your grandfather, I think he was the one. I also heard that he passed away years back.

    Until then,
    Josephen/Whoopi
